Hi,

I would like certain member levels to have the capability to author and/or edit POSTS and one particular CUSTOM POST TYPE on my site.

I thought I could use the role manager/editor in the Members plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/members/) to accomplish this but it doesn’t seem to work.

I’ve given s2member_level2 the following capabilities in the Members role manager:
edit_posts
delete_posts
edit_published_posts

When I go to an existing post, though, an s2member in Level 2 is not listed in the drop-down of possible authors.

I get the same result on my Custom Post Type posts.

Can you help? Is this possible? Am I missing something?

Thank you,
Shawn

Hi Shawn.

This isn’t something s2Member doesn’t support, really.

That said, I’ve known users who edited s2Member’s roles to add the capabilities they wanted to give them and thus customize this kind of thing.

We’ve recommended trying the User Role Editor plugin.

Here’s the roles and capabilities documentation:

I hope that helps. :)

Hi Cristian –

Thanks for your reply. This is exactly what I’ve been trying to do, but something isn’t working correctly…

I’ve tried using the role manager of the Members plugin and the role manager of the User Role Editor (separately). I add the capability for s2member Level 2 to edit posts, but my WP install doesn’t seem to be recognizing it — my Level 2 members aren’t appearing in the “author” drop-down list for blog posts, so I can’t assign them as the author/editor of the post. I’m not sure if there’s a problem with my install somewhere, or if I’m not setting something correctly.

???

Thanks,
Shawn

Sorry, I don’t really know much about that, haven’t tried doing it. :/

Did you try the WordPress forums or Google?

Just did a quick search and browsed some pages, and one possible reason may be a plugin causing the author to miss from the dropdown, or you may need to add another capability, but I don’t know what other reasons there are or which one is causing you that problem.

Like I said, I don’t know about that one, but I hope that tip helps. :)
