Refund inevitable? Please help.

I’m kind of at my wits. I feel I’ve spent too long researching/reading forums and trying to get basic functions to work properly and to no avail.

Two issues:

#1. Aweber Integration isn’t working. I have completed all the steps for success. I know this because one test did land in my Aweber list. All the other tests have not, sadly. Also, the disabling of the double opt-in did not work.

#2. Login Redirect bug. Sometimes those who register and login are redirected to the admin backend page. I’ve researched this topic, and there isn’t a graceful solution to this. This issue is a back-breaker.

I really wanted this membership service to work, but I feel I’m left with no choice but to possibly go elsewhere. If a refund is possible in my case, I’d like one. I’m sorry.

If one test worked, then perhaps you were affected by the 12-hour rule? (The aforementioned link also contains a few helpful tips for debugging AWeber.) I also suggest double-checking all your AWeber settings and re-reading Knowledge Base » AWeber email parser for s2Member.

#2. Login Redirect bug. Sometimes those who register and login are redirected to the admin backend page. I’ve researched this topic, and there isn’t a graceful solution to this. This issue is a back-breaker.

All s2Member Levels have role capabilities that are equivalent to the WordPress “Subscriber” role, which itself does not allow access to the WordPress admin backend. So unless you modified the s2Member roles (or manually changed a users role), there’s no way an s2Member user could gain access to the WordPress admin backend.

If you’re referring to the Profile Editing section on the WordPress backend, then you might want to check Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Member Profile Modifications and look for your configuration under the section called “Redirect Members away from the Default Profile Panel?”.

The fix for #2 seemed to work. Thanks.

#1 is still having issues. I’ve received confirmation emails from Aweber with only email addresses other than gmail. I don’t know if this is a coincidence or not. I also know that the 12-hour rule does not apply in my situation because I recently tried a new gmail account unrelated to my test gmail accounts.

Emails that have been successfully put on an Aweber list:
xxx@nflwp.com
xxx@walshfundraising.com

Email addresses that have not been successfully put on an Aweber list:
xxx@gmail.com
xxx@gmail.com
xxx@gmail.com

Is there anything I can do?

Perhaps I should note that every transaction I make is through my paypal account connected to my gmail account. Would this have anything to do with anything?

Also, I have a new problem. I just set up a Specific buy now button. All works fine except I didn’t get a confirmation email with the link. Again, my email connected with the PayPal payment is gmail. Nothing is going into a spam folder, so it’s not that.

What could be the problems?

It sounds like there might be a problem with your server sending emails to GMail addresses. You’d need to contact your web host to have them check on that for you.

Another helpful thing you can do is install the Email Log plugin. That plugin keeps a record of all the emails sent through WordPress so you can see exactly what got sent.

Another very useful thing is to configure an SMTP server for WordPress so that all emails are sent through another server instead of the one your site is on. I personally have a GMail account that I use as my primary WordPress address and I installed the WP SMTP plugin and configured it to use the GMail SMTP server to send all my emails. It works great.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried the Email Log plugin, and made another transaction (a transaction that buys specific web pages). To my knowledge, the way it’s supposed to work is a user makes this transaction and is then emailed twice. One email confirms the payment and another email confirms the link to their product. Well, the user is emailed the payment confirmation but not the email.

I just tested this with both a Gmail and a non-Gmail account. On both tests, the payment verification was received, but the link confirmation was not. Also, should I be getting an email log on the Email Log plugin? There are no emails being logged after these transactions.

UPDATE:

I just tried using the SMTP method you provided, but this didn’t work either. I used the same settings as you. The test email worked. However, when I make a transaction, I’m still not receiving an email that verifies the link(s) I just purchased. I’m also not getting put on the Aweber list…

I also contacted my web host.

I just enabled logging, and I have the .log files. When I open them, the format is horrible, and it’s hard to read. If I pasted it here, it would look ugly. But here it goes:

I heard back from my host, and they’d advised me to do a couple of things, which I did. And still, it’s not working. I also tried putting a transaction button on certain other pages on my website, and I get crazy large Buy Now buttons. Something is going on here, too. Too many things going wrong.

I’m planning on an alternative method here that will use a combination of the page restrictions link generator offered free from s2member and then using e-junkie for purchase (which is successfully sending emails on purchase).

OK. If I changed the width style that you pointed out, will that mess up other things? If I go with s2member buttons, how might you suggest I fix this large button issue?

If you change the style there, it may affect other things in the theme. You’ll need to write a new style with a selector more specific to the button to override the style your theme is applying.

I just did the purchase and will check later if I got the confirmation email. I’ll post an update later today when I come back.

It logs every mail sent by WordPress. That way we can tell if we’re not getting the Signup Confirmation email is that it’s not being sent at all or if it gets sent but doesn’t arrive, which would help narrow down where the problem is. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/email-log/

Okay, I did two new transactions a while ago, one while logged in to the admin account, and another while logged out.

This time the return page said the purchase was confirmed and the button linked to the protected content, which I could access correctly.

The other times I tested the purchase, I got the message that I needed to check my email, probably waiting 15 mins, but the email never arrived. This time the emails haven’t arrived either, though.

I looked at your plugins and found that you had the Email Log installed and active, so I took a look and there’s no new email mentioned since the 24th.

The s2Member logs show today’s transactions went fine, but neither mentions an email sent either.

Maybe there’s a plugin conflict preventing emails from working properly. Could you please test this deactivating the other plugins one by one, doing a test purchase after each to see if the problem goes away?
