Hi,

I just want to create a client login area that doesn’t use paypal and restrict 3 pages on my site to people with level #0 permission. How do i do this? As far as i can see it’s compulsory to have paypal in the form? How can redirect people trying to access my restricted pages to the login page?

Thanks

Isabelle

Hello Isabelle,

It isn’t necessary to have PayPal, see here, if you’re talking about pro-forms: Pre Sale FAQs » To use s2Member® Pro Forms, will I have to use PayPal® Pro?

If you’re talking about the free version of s2Member, then you don’t require PayPal, if you want to offer free access you don’t require PayPal. Level 0 is free users BTW, they don’t pay, and they register under http://www.yourwebsite.com/wp-login.php?action=register

Does this answer your question?

Hi Eduan,

thanks for the reply. It sort of answers but doesn’t…

I am currently using the free version so was wondering what I need to do because in the settings it says i need to create a page called Membership Signup, but how do people get redirected to the login page then? I don’t really see the purpose of a Membership page if it’s only free membership, is there not a way of just directing them to the login / register interface, and once they are logged in just straight to the homepage?

Currently when people try to access a level 0 page, they get redirected to the Membership Signup page rather than the interface.. where do I control this?

Also does s2member protect from your members accessing anything in the wp-admin?

Thanks!

Isabelle

Well, the membership options page is for those pages that you want to be protected at level 0, if the user wants to access one of those pages the membership options page will tell the user to register first.

At this point you would simply put a link to the registration page explaining what they gain by registering, or simply put a JavaScript redirect to the registration page.

The login welcome page is what users see once they login, right after they login, this is the page that they will see. You can configure this to redirect to a URL (any URL, including your homepage) or a page within WordPress, which can’t be your homepage in order to not cause problems with WordPress.

WordPress already blocks the users that are not admins from accessing your wp-admin, so you don’t have to worry about that. :)

Hope this helps. :)

Isabelle, the Membership Options page is the one you choose to show a user when he tries to open a page he doesn’t have access to. It can have anything you want, since you write the content for it. It doesn’t have to sell the access, it can just say that the page he tried to view is only available to registered users and ask them to register for free (with a link to the registration page) or login if he already has an account (with a link to the login page).

s2Member Pro lets you add a registration form to any WordPress page, so it would be possible to have a registration form right in the Membership Options page if you want that.

I hope that helps. :)

Ok thanks… I am almost there…

Just one thing though… I want to be able to verify my users and approve them before sending them a password… I don’t want just anyone to be able to register!

It seems s2member overrides the tickbox in the default wordpress setting to disallow just anyone to register… how can i control manually that people get sent an email?

basically i want FREE membership but control WHO gets it….

thanks… your customer support is excellent i will most definitely be recommending you :)

Also, the redirect when people register then log in isn’t working – it still goes to the dashboard?

Help :(

I’m afraid currently the only steps you can take to do something similar to this is the following:
You can let users register at level 0, for free, they get their password.
And if you approve of the user you can upgrade them to level 1, which is at the level which everything will be protected, instead of level 0.

Hope this helps. :)
