I have just put my site live and I am using s2member pro to giving paying members access to download video files (200-650MB) for the secured s2-member-files directory.
However, the members from the first hour all complain that the downloads consitently fail. The downloads start, but all fail sooner or later after a partial download (up to 155Mb) My hosting company has looked at it from the server side and could not find anything irregular. I gave them login credentials and they could process the downloads completely. And so can I when I test it on my own computer or on another computer from a different location. I followed the steps in the resolving download issues-section of the forum, but creating the 2nd step (s2-hacks) led to errors, so I removed that step again.

Any idea what could be causing this and how to solve it?

Thank you

Richard

Thank you for reporting this important issue.

It sounds to me like you’re having some sort of timeout, or your downloads are being corrupted in some way. The first step here is to run our Server Scanner, and fix any issues that might pop up. If there are no issues, let me know.

Hello Bruce,

I ran the server check, no major issues, except a warning: plugin directory checksum s2member Pro. I deleted the entire s2member pro directory from my server and uploaded it again, but the warning still persists.

Also, a developer has built a test-Wordpress site and installed s2MemberPro to investigate the download isssue and reported that both within the protected directory as well as outside the protected directory the downloads don’t process correctly.

Please let me know what the next step should be
Thank you very much,

Richard

When you say “within the protected directory as well as outside the protected directory the downloads don’t process correctly”, what do you mean by that?

What I mean is that he did not seem to be able to complete the download either when he downloaded the files from another directory than the secured s2-member files directory.

In my posts, I use the following code to link to the file download and I put all the video files in the /s2-member_files directory. This has worked in some cases (complete files were transferred), but in most cases it doesn’t. The downloads start but not the complete file is transferred. Only partially.

Thanks for the information.

It sounds like something your server hosting company is in control of. I can’t think of any reason s2Member would do this and in my tests it works properly for any size file.

I strongly recommend contacting your server hosting company.
