Hi,

I’m a new user of s2member pro with a fresh install of WP (3.5.1).

For this moment I want to use s2member only for free sign-up. The problem is that the new (free) users don’t receive a confirmation by email with their passwords.

Here are my settings (on “General Options”) :
– in “Email Configuration” I try Yes and No in “New User Email Configuration”, without success (but I receive the administrator’s notification),
– in “Open Registration” I set Yes in “Allow Open Registration”.

I have not made other adjustments. It’s just a fresh install of WP without smtp plugin or other components.

Could you help me to find a solution. I have no problem to send to an administrator my admin details, if it’s possible for him to check my configuration.

Thanks in advance,
Regards

Hi,

Me again. I continue my tests and I have new informations.

I see that :
– on @gmail.com I receive the confirmation mail (in spam)
– on @yahoo.fr I receive the confirmation mail
– on @hotmail.fr and @live.fr I receive nothing (and nothing in spam too !)
– on the webmail of one of my website I don’t receive the confirmation mail.

Have you ever seen that… ? It’s very strange that I see nothing on hotmail.fr and live.fr.

On the dedicated server I use I don’t have generally problem with mails and newletters… but I need to find the reason and the solution, it’s not possible for my new website that some people couldn’t receive my emails :'(

Thanks !

Hello there,

It’s not actually strange that you don’t receive the email in some services.

– In Gmail it’s considered spam.
– Yahoo doesn’t think anything of it.
– Hotmail, probably received email, but it’s servers are too slow so they’re still processing or something, you’ll probably get it eventually.
– And your own server, it’s probably some kind of self defense setup by your server, not to receive emails from itself.

These are my guesses on what happened of course. Don’t take them for granted.

Could you please install the Email Log plugin and try again with all the different email adresses? Then check the plugin’s logs and see if the email got sent in all of them.

Hi,

Thank for your assistance !

I tried Email Log as you ask me.

I made news subscriptions. Exactly same results. I see in the log that I send 2 emails for each subscription. One mail for administrator and one mail for the new subscriber. It’s seems to be send by WP and it’s normal, that’s why I don’t undertand why I have theses differences.

I receive nothing on hotmail.fr and live.fr from the tests I realize yesterday, so I don’t think theirs servers are too slow.

Could you say me if s2member use the native function to send mail ?

Maybe I could try to use a plugin in order to change the php mail function by my local smtp ?!

I try in this time to configure a SPF correctly. For the DKIM I see that the native function of WP don’t have this option.

I continue to search, hope we find together the reason. If you have ideas or tests, don’t hesitate :)

Best regards !

Hi,

After a lot of tests, I think that it’s not a problem from s2member. I think this is my server.

I think I will use Aweber.

In order to close this topic, could you just confirm me if with aweber integration, all the emails will be send with Aweber servers (signup confirmation and other emails) ?

Thank you,
Regards

The problem is not s2Member, or WordPress, if Email Log says the emails got sent, then WordPress told your server to do it, whether your server does it, or the service receives it, that’s where the problem lies.

And I’m not sure. If any email is sent by AWeber it will only be the one confirming the user’s subscription to whatever mailing list you setup with AWeber, nothing else.

Hi,

Yes I think too that the problem is on the server. That’s why I think a good solution is to use Aweber (to avoid spam at the same time).

So, I will create an account on Aweber and configure the integration on the API of s2members. I will check after that the procedure after a subscription and see if s2member use Aweber to send confirmation mails with the passwords.

If it’s ok, I will close this topic and give my last results :)

Regards !

OK, good luck.

However, saying this now, it’s most probably going to be impossible to make AWeber send all the emails. Also it’s insecure.

Hi,

I try several thing and you are right, it’s not possible to make Aweber send all the emails I need for my membership section.

I would like to know if it’s possible to have a refund. I will not use s2member on my website (maybe later for another project). I know that it’s certainly a problem on my server and it’s not a real problem from your script (but your configuration for sending emails it’s not optimum for my needs).

Could you give me an answer about this ?

Thank you in advance,
Regards

I’m afraid that isn’t covered by the refund policy. :/

The refund policy only covers those cases when s2Member did not work as promoted and you didn’t receive the help necessary to get it to work (following the support policy, s2Member® » Support Policy), and you’re within the first 30 days of your purchase.
s2Member® » Terms » Refund Policy

SE MEDIA you simply want to set up all outgoing mail on your server to use something like Amazon Simple Mail or Google Apps Mail through SMTP.

It will cost a little extra but will be we’ll worth it as all mail will be digitally signed and not hit anyone’s spam.

See here for a start.

Hi,

Thank for your answers.

I understand how I can use s2member with no problem on email.

Certainly I will use your script on another website :-)

Best regards and thanks again
