Internal Server Error when No open registrati

I am having trouble selecting “No, open registration”. I have no need to offer open/free registration so I am choosing not to use it. I was using it just to play around with it when I noticed that if logged out and I did allow open registration then I would be restricted from the website and only be able to see the membership levels page. It wouldn’t even allow me to see the homepage if I was logged out (these pages do not have any minimum subscription levels associated with them). So I went to change it to “No open registration” and my whole website goes down with a 500 Internal Server Error, and the only way to go around that is allow for “open registration”. Please help, I am very lost with this.
