I am trying to capture mailing addresses from the paypal IPN and put them into custom fields, with the idea that users could login and change their mailing addresses as needed . my website provides digital and print versions of a magazine, so I need the physical addresses, I can download the from paypal of course, but it would be easier for my users to double check their address info and modify on my site (im not sure they can even do that on paypal)

I know others have asked questions about this before, but was wondering if someone could point me in the right direction of how to go about setting this up.

Hi Brenda.

I’m not sure I understand. Do you mean the user’s PayPal email address or the one they registered with? The PayPal one is not stored by s2, the registration one is there in WordPress and editable. I’m guessing you mean the PayPal one. Could you confirm?

Thanks. :)

Actually, i mean their physical mailing address. I set the shortcode in the button to ns=2 so that paypal asks for a mailing address, and can pass that back through IPN. But, after tinkering with that some I have decided to go another direction and use the forms instead of the buttons.

But that raised another question I was about to post ( and I will go ahead and do that in a separate post). I noticed that a few other people had asked about whether it was possible to automatically populate the billing address section of the form with a mailing address that the user supplies as part of a custom field. Since the custom fields show up first, the user fills that in, but then has to fill in the address again when they choose a billing method. It should be possible to take the information from the custom field and populate the billing fields with it.

It should be possible to take the information from the custom field and populate the billing fields with it.

We’re improving this in the new s2Member, but the current one doesn’t synch them, since the custom fields could be anything, not just address fields, but the billing info is required by the gateway for the payment. You could have a developer experienced in JavaScript, try to customize the form to synch them in your installation, I guess.
