Hi!

I am new to s2Member and I have started configuring my site. Right now when I click on the Login Welcome page it goes to a blank white page. Shouldn’t it go to a message such as, “this is a restricted area, please go to the sign up page to become a member”?

Also, I need help being able to test to make sure my site is working before launching it to the public. I need to be able to see it as an outside viewer – not just at the back end on my wordpress site. I tried to sign up for my own site, but I get an error message telling me I can’t since I am the owner of the site. Someone suggested signing up via the PayPal button while I am not logged into my wordpress site. I just tried that but I still received the error message.

Can anyone help me on these topics? Thank you!

Please note I am not technical and I do not know code. I just need the basics. :)

Hi Astra.

Could you post the link to the Login Welcome page you set in your s2Member options?
[hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Login Welcome Page[/hilite]

If s2Member tells you you’re the admin, then there’s a good chance you’re logged in. Please double check that you logged out before trying the button. Or use another browser where you’re not logged in for the test.

I hope that helps. :)

Hello my friend! Here is my Welcome Members page: http://emerge-embrace.com/emerge-entrepreneurs-online-sign-up/my-log-in-welcome-page/

And nope, I was not logged in when trying to sign up for my own site. I will try again tomorrow! It’s late.

Thanks for your response and attempt to help! :)

Oh! Also, I just realized – it is not s2Member telling my I am the admin, it is PayPal that won’t let me sign up for my site.

You see, I need to be able to test and check my site from the outside, as if I were a paid member – so that I can see what they are going to be seeing. I want to make sure it is working properly before I go ahead and create all the content for the site.

So, for instance, I am not logged in to my wordpress site right now, and I am going to attempt to sign up for my membership site….

OK, I go to my membership sign up page, and hit the PayPal button. It takes me to the page where I would pay for the membership. I try logging in to PayPal from there so that I can give my payment info, and a message pops up on that window: “You are logging into the account of the seller for this purchase. Please change your login information and try again.”

So you see – it will not let me get in to pay for my own membership site.

So what I need is a way I can access my site as if I am an outside member, and not the seller or owner. Can you help?

Also, still just seeing a blank white page when I go to my “Welcome to the Members Area” page.

About the payment problem, then you’re logging in to PayPal to pay with the same account that’d be receiving the payment. You’ll need to pay with another PayPal account, or just don’t login to PayPal and use a card.

About the Welcome page, if it were working, it’d be redirecting me to the Membership Options, because s2Member protects the Welcome page at Level 0 (logged in), but I’m not being redirected anywhere.

Also, the blank page says in the source “Just cached – Page generated in 3.0458 seconds” so you may want to try deactivating the caching plugin you’re using, see if it makes a difference.

Is [hilite mono]/emerge-entrepreneurs-online-sign-up/my-log-in-welcome-page/[/hilite] a WordPress page? Could you post here a screenshot of your edit page for it? Thanks.

Thank you so much! I will try all these things and get back to you soon! I can tell I won’t meet my own deadline of having my site ready by Friday :) – trying for next Wednesday at this point!

OK – just tried paying on PayPal by using my card and not logging in. I only have one PayPal account, and one card that I can use – and the card is already associated with the account so here is the error message I got: “You cannot use an e-mail address or card number that belongs to an existing PayPal account. If you have a PayPal account, please log in. If you don’t, please change the e-mail address or card number and try again.”

Does this mean I am creating a membership site that I will not be able to test? There must be a way for the owner of a site to be able to test it and make sure all is working so that we know we are providing a great quality site to our clients. Also, that way we can hopefully boost the sales on our site and become paying s2Member customers! :)

More soon on the login page issue…

sweet – thank you for the link to this tutorial – I am watching it all the way through once, then will watch it again and apply it – I have faith that once I can test to make sure it is working, and get the issue with the login welcome page smoothed over, that all will be well! I took off one of the two caching plugins from my site, but it is making my site run slower. Did that help my login page? And how can I get my site to run faster? thanks! I didn’t want to take off the other caching plugin, because before I added that one my website was loading at an extremely slow speed. Help!! Thanks.

p.s. I also just changed my permalinks settings to the page id status (default) – I had changed it to be the names of the posts and pages, because that looks more professional on a business website. But I feel like I remember learning that s2member works better when the page links are shorter and have just the page id number. Is that correct?

Posted: Wednesday Apr 4th, 2012 at 5:00 am #10026

No, s2Member doesn’t require the permalinks to have the post ID.

You can try Quick Cache, developed by Jason as well, Lead Dev of s2Member. http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/quick-cache/

Posted: Wednesday Apr 4th, 2012 at 12:12 pm #10040

Thanks Cristian.

Actually, I tested it after I wrote to you last night.

By removing one of the two caching plugins I had on my site, and changing the permalinks from post names to page id numbers, my login welcome page is now working! When I am not logged in, it redirects to my sign up page. When I am logged in, it simply goes to itself – which is the proper place :) and it is no longer a blank white page. What a relief!

Strangely, when I uploaded Quick Cache, it actually made my pages load slower and then I deactivated it and deleted it and the pages are running faster. I won’t question it – I am just so happy it is working! Now I will get the PayPal Sandbox testing in gear and create all the content for my membership site – and I am way closer to having it up and running than I was in the last couple weeks.

Thank you so much for all of your help!! I really appreciate it. :)

Cristian – I have an issue with my sign in page. It works fine, but there is a strange rectangular shape super-imposing itself over the text – which is really bad for a sales page! http://emerge-embrace.com/?page_id=785 I had some text on the top of the page that I had created with the name of the page – but I deleted that, as I thought that was what was creating the rectangle shape. I tried moving words around. I tried to see if there was anything funky in the html. I am not finding anything that I have done that would be creating that shape. I will work around it for now, but it looks very unprofessional and I would love help getting rid of it! Thank you!

Clicking on “inspect element” in Chrome I found this extra code which is creating those two iframes over your content (I didn’t copy all the code):

<span class="st_plusone_buttons" st_title="EMERGE Entrepreneurs Online – Sign Up" st_url="http://emerge-embrace.com/?page_id=785" displaytext="share" st_processed="yes">

Looks like maybe a facebook and/or google plugin not working correctly maybe?

Hope that helps,
Dave

Hi Dave, thank you for your reply! The only new plugin I had activated was Jetpack. Before that, the rectangle shape was not there. Jetpack did include a share aspect, which had a button to share on Facebook. I have since deactivated that plugin – but the shapes are still showing up. Should I delete it all together?

I also deleted some other old plugins I was not using but that didn’t seem to help either.

If you have any other ideas or thoughts I would love to hear. Thank you!

Posted: Saturday Apr 14th, 2012 at 9:18 pm #10829

I deleted Jetpack entirely and it is still there.

I have the ShareThis and the Google Analytics plugin – they have been there for a while – almost the whole time – and I have never had this problem with that random shape. Help!

Have you updated wodpress and/or those plugins recently? Could be a new version conflict or something.

The iframes are being set inside this span:

This is the facebook “like” button next to your photo on the post. Try removing that like button and see if it goes away. Could the the like button is not being formatted correctly or something.

Wow Dave! That Facebook button was part of the Share This plugin that has been on my site the whole time.

I deleted the plugin and now that annoying shape is gone – thank you so much for the suggestion!

Maybe that plugin was updated recently – that is too bad it is no longer compatible, as I liked its functionality – But now I will re-install Jetpack which also has a share function – and hopefully that will be compatible.

Thank you so much again for your help! :)
