Bob Easton here, as technical support for Mary May…

This is a cautionary tale for those who use IP Access Restrictions.

One of our customers started experiencing 503 lockouts shortly after he started using a Verizon Jetpack mobile hotspot. It turns out that the Jetpack acquires a different WAN IP address every time it connects. It didn’t take long to overrun the 5 address limit that was the default for IP Access Restrictions.

Not knowing how many other addresses that device might acquire, I’ve disabled the restriction. Is there something else coming along to replace it?

-Bob

Yeah, users with frequently changing IPs can be a problem in this regard.

The unique IP restriction will still be there in the new s2Member being developed, but we’re looking at the possibility of being able to set custom limits for certain users that require it.

Thanks for your input. :)
