Hello Chase,

Could you please provide more info? What levels are the user and what level content are they trying to access? Have you tried these trouble shooting tips?: Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips

they are level four users. Paid members cant not for some reason access the pages I kept restricted but they can get to there profile page. what is causing this? In matter of fact level 1-4 no matter which one you use or restrict paid members cant view the content on those pages, they get redircted to my members options page. Thats the page where my paypal pro form is located. They have paid so why are they being redirected to my members option page. They should be able to view the content I restricted.

Ok I have been playing with this and i noticed that my paid users are being assigned as subscriber instead of s2member level 4. Thats the problem i have narrowed it down to that because once i manually switch that person role from subcriber to s2member level 4. in my wordpress user data base it works they can now see the resticted content. But now my questions is how come when that person pays for membership why are they not giving s2member level 4 access, instead they are giving a subscriber role which is no good because with the role you can access block content.

Hi Chase,

To start off, could you please verify that your PayPal IPN and PDT are set up correctly?

Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› PayPal® IPN Integration
Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› PayPal® PDT Integration

This is usually the issue here.

Also, could you please set this to “real time”?
Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -> PayPal® Pro Forms / Recurring Profile Behavior

Do you have logging enabled? Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -› Logging

If so, can you send us a copy of your logs, with sensitive data xxx’d out?

Also, can you send us the shortcode you are currently using to sign users up?

Thanks.

I just notcied that when members pay using debit cards everything works and there giving the right role s2level 4. Which is great. When they use paypal the transaction goes threw which is also great too. but the role that person is given is only a subscriber, which make them not able to access the restricted content. how do I get them to be assigned the role of s2level 4 automatically. so they can have access to the full website. FYI when i checked paypal recuring for that transaction, it was there but I noticed that transaction did not have a account number and a expiration number like the rest of my other (members) transactions. Those were done with debit cards. (the ones done by debit are good these people can access restricted content, but when paid threw pay pal these people cant access restricted content, they can only access unrestricted content.)

Another question i have is. If a user pays with pay pal how can they cancel there membership, I heard they have to go threw there own paypal account. but I really feel they should’nt have to that since they paid on my website, they should be given the chance to cancel there membership on my website. Anyways where is the area were paid members can cancel there account on paypal (those who paid with paypal). I paid with my paypal account to see if everything would work. I cant figure out how u can cancel Ive looked all around my paypal account. I need to know so members can know how to if they want to cancel. Please help I need answers for both questions. thanks

ok just noticed this.. Also whats strange is if i even try to delete that account that was created with paypal not a debit transaction but paid with a paypal account. Paypal tells the user this:(No active subscriptions to contact@blahblah.com were found. You can find the status of all subscriptions in your transaction history.) No subscription as stated are found in the users history for paypal, but the payment I require for my membership is in the history.

So to generalize its like the payments go threw (for those who pay with paypal account), but there is no subscription information for those who pay with a paypal account in there paypal history only what my site is charging appears. these same people who pay with paypal account are not given the right role by s2member they should be given s2level4 for access instead there giving a subscriber role which makes them unable to view restricted content. Debit transactions have no issues, they are assigned to s2level4 when payments go threw only when you pay with a paypal account is when the problem occurs.
(also I think the reason users that paid with paypal account cant cancel or dont see the cancel botton in there paypal history is because for somereason they are not subscribed as a member to begin with for eg (s2level4), instead there given a subsriber role which they should not be given. but they are still charged what my site requires for membership. The only thing that shows in that users paypal history is the payment that was made to my website that’s it. no way for them to unsubscribe there membership in there paypal history.

How do i get this fixed so people who use paypal account to pay will be assigned the correct role I offer which is only s2level4. also to make it possible for them to delete there account. Once again debit transaction eg visa. work good….. those who pay with debit card have no problem viewing restricted content. only when they use there paypal account do things get messed up like not being assigned the right role which is s2level4 to view restricted content instead there giving a subsriber role.

Could you please paste here the shortcode that you’re trying to use? It would really helpful to be able to find out the issue. :)

FYI when i checked paypal recuring for that transaction, it was there but I noticed that transaction did not have a account number and a expiration number like the rest of my other (members) transactions.

This is expected behavior, since s2Member doesn’t know when this subscription might end, only PayPal knows, and when it happens it notifies s2Member and s2Member demotes the user.

Another question i have is. You can generate a button for this, check under Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Buttons -› Subscr. Cancellation Buttons.

Again, in order to find out the issue we need you to give us the shortcode that you are using in your website.

We need you to give us a copy of the logs that you can find under wp-content/plugins/s2member-logs/, make sure you have logging enabled under Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -› Logging.

Also, if you could follow these troubleshooting steps that would be great: Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips

Hope this helps. :)

Here is my log but also what happens now is that when you pay with a credit/debit card or paypal, the payments go threw but those members are giving the wrong role. making them not able to view restricted content. They are giving the role of subscriber instead of the s2member level 4, role.

Please please I need to resolve this issue thanks. Also I see dont see where a member who pays via there paypal account can cancel there subscription in there pay pal account. I heard it was supposed to be in the my money overview page, but I saw nothing there. The only thing that was recorded on that user or members pay pal account was the money my site charges for membership, thats it no option to cancel member option.

I’m sorry, I must-ve missed this.

For some reason it didn’t appear in my unread posts inbox, while others did.

Recently Neither Bruce nor Raam have been online, so right now the only official support is Cristian, and community support is me. :)

Charles, very sorry I missed this the past two days. Thanks for posting your log entry and the shortcode.

I’d like to do a test purchase myself, see what happens as a user with a test account, and then review the new log entries. Could you please send me the login info for the dashboard and FTP? s2Member® » Private Contact Form

I’ll be around during the weekend too. I’ll try to do this later today Saturday, and hopefully find what’s causing the problem.

Thanks Cristian its very good to hear from u. Instead can u just do a test purchase on my website. The price is set for one cent. and when u make the purchase I can send u all the logs for that transaction. U will notice that once u pay, u will have access to anything thats not restricted. but once u click on a page thats restricted s2member will redirect u to the paypal pro forms (membership option page). As a subcriber, the role s2member will assign u will give u limited access. but u should be giving the role of s2level 4 for unlimited access for my website. is this ok with u? and if u so when can u do a test purchase?

Also did you noticed anything strange with my log and short code?

One more question in my log i noticed this: ‘txn_type’ => ‘subscr_signup’,
Should that say..’txn_type => s2level 4_signup’, … Im just guessing here to try and help solve this thanks

Hey cristain no need test I think fix it. I think it was a catching issue with my caching plugin and the cookies not being set. Hey quick question does s2member use cookies for registration in any type of way? thanks

please also as I said payments are going threw but the only problem I have is that when a user tries to cancel from there paypal account for the recurring billing. There no where for them to do this in there (paypal my money profile) thats where they should be able to cancel there membership but nothing showing in there. All that shows in the paypal account of the user is the inital charge that mysite/s2member requires to be a paid member. and thats in the paypal account overview. When I go to my paypal reccuring billing i see the payment and when the next payment is due which is good. but like I said the users have no way of cancelling there account for it does not show in there(paypal my money profile… fyi thats where paypal allows there users to cancel memberships, subscriptions etc. please help…

Yes, s2Member saves the permission to access the registration page within cookies that are set through the link in the Email members should receive.

Have you tried checking out Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms -› Billing Cancellation Forms?

No… I have that paypal pro form cancellation form and if a user goes to it s2member tells them to cancel threw there paypal account. that only works for debit transactions. not for paypal subscribers or those who paid with a paypal account. How can paypal users cancel there account. since they cant do it with the pro cancellation form or in there paypal account. They should have a way to cancel……. again there is no way for paypal users to cancel there membership with the pro forms or in there my money profile in the users paypal account (which is where the recurring billing information for my website should be at). Nothing shows anything about reccuring billing in the users paypal my money profile. but on my end in my paypal manager account I can see the account for recurring billing? which also indicates the next billing cycle for those who paid with paypal. LoSt help.

FYI dean horob a s2member paid member had this same problem and a few other people to

Hi Charles,

Currently this is the only way to stop a subscription / cancel with s2Member. I’ll make a request for a possible change in the future on this, but for now you’ll need to use the forms within Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms -› Billing Cancellation Forms, or Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Buttons -› Subscr. Cancellation Buttons.

Ok websharks FYI that will not work. OK, paypal members cant cancel there membership service the only way it can be done is if I do it manually my self in my paypal manager login. One of the reasons I think they cant cancel is because NOTHING shows up in the user paypal account about recurring billing to begin with.. The only thing that theY see in there account is the inital fee my site charges thats it. Nothing shows or says anything about recurring billing for my website in there account. I dont understand how on my end I can see it through my paypal manager account (users or members recurring billing) but the member who paid cant see any recurring statement on there paypal account and they are not able to cancel there membership from there own paypal account. Ive tested and tested and am 100 percent sure its a glitch with s2member. aside from that its a good plugin. jason should know about this PROBLEM other people have had this problem to.

OH fyi debit/credit payers can cancel with no problem. Its those who use there paypal account who CAN NOT cancel there membership and i have to end up doing it manually threw my paypal manager account…

this problem should be looked into more and FIXED thanks……..

So the user is creating a subscription with their PayPal account? They login to their PayPal account to start the subscription?

Or are they paying for it at PayPal, but not logged in to their PayPal accounts? The latter would be possible if you have the PayPal recurring payments service that makes that possible (like PayPal Standard with ERP). If this were the case, then the subscription would be created outside of his PayPal account and could explain why it doesn’t show up in it.

When you see the subscription on your side, does it show as a PayPal user or not?

Now, if it’s actually paid from inside the PayPal account and not showing up there as an active subscription, then it sounds like a problem with PayPal. Did you try asking PayPal support about those particular subscriptions to find out why it may not be showing up on the customer side?
