Password Protecting Categories

The functionality I want is as follows: I want to password protect 2 categories on site. I want the user to have to enter a user name and password only (no other required fields). The same user name and password will protect both categories. Users are not required to register, and I don’t want to collect member information. When someone clicks on a category they should be directed to the login form where they enter the username and password. After entering this, they get directed back to their chosen category with full access to all posts.

Is it possible to do this with S2? I installed the framework but the login form has other required fields that I don’t want. Is this functionality possible with the pro version?

No, that’s not possible in s2Member Pro either.

s2Member doesn’t password protect the content, it protects it based on the user account’s access level. Creating an account does require a username and password, but also an email address. The step where he has to enter the user/pass to view content, would pretty much be the same as logging in if he registered.

It is possible to sell access without requiring registration if you using the Specific Post/Page restriction, but that doesn’t do categories. You can protect posts and groups and bundle them, but a bundle you sold wouldn’t be updated in the future with new posts you create.
