Hi, long time s2member user (from way back, when you were still promoting this at PriMoThemes), first time ticketer.

I have a weird situation that I’m hoping you can help me with. I have s2Member Pro, but I installed the s2Member Framework on a website of mine and while I went through the sandboxing, the Paypal buttons, and the process, everything seemed like it was working for about two months. I have 4 levels, 3 categories, 10 different subscriptions with the feature to “pay at Paypal website, then come back to register”.

It wasn’t until ~today~ that the Paypal stopped responding to my generated buttons. The message I got constantly was this one:

If you were making a purchase or sending money, we recommend that you check both your PayPal account and your email for a transaction confirmation after 30 minutes.

If you came to this page from another website, please return to that site (don’t use your browser’s Back button) and restart your activity.

If you came from PayPal’s website, click the PayPal logo in the upper-left corner to return to our home page and restart your activity. You might have to log in again.
We are sorry, we are experiencing temporary difficulties. Please try again later. If this error occurred while making a payment, avoid duplicate payments by checking your Account Overview before resending a payment.

I looked around the support forums all day (and Paypal, among help) before typing this, and I did a few things:

  • I did clear my cookies and attempted to try to start the subscription process again. 9 out of 10 times it would fail, but that one chance that it did begin the process, it was just after clearing the cookies.
  • I minimized plugins to see if it was clashing with s2. I didn’t find any results with this. Alternatively, I set up the subscriptions and had people registering for a while, and there were no upgrades other than s2member.
  • I checked the Paypal IPN but again, it worked initially after putting it live.
  • The s2member Server Scan didn’t show anything that could be fixed; just the PHP memory limit (40mb of 64mb allowed)

I honestly can’t tell where to go, either here at s2member, or go ask Paypal what’s up. The error message above and THOSE results tell me I should have gone to Paypal, but the fact that the entire subscription process was stable for 2 months tells me it could have been something I overlooked with s2member. I’m inclined to just setup the s2Member Pro features and set it up with the Paypal on-site forms.

Any advice is appreciated.

It sounds like a problem on PayPal’s side. If you had everything working fine for so long and you now have that issue with the message saying “We are sorry, we are experiencing temporary difficulties. Please try again later.” it seems like a temporary issue on their end. Check with them to find out what’s going on.
