PHP/shortcode for listing number of members

I would like to let my visitors know the number of registered paying members. Is there a PHP code and shortcode that I can use to simply show that number? The idea is also to show something like this: `You are member number out of the XXXX paying members registered since April 30th 2012. <a href="URL of page with affiliate link and info">Click here</a> to use your affiliate link and make $XX commission (to be paid to your paypal) on each new member your link refers.` Thanks in advance!
