Our organization is shopping around for a premium WordPress Theme. We are considering s2Member’s affiliate Themeforest. We’re specifically looking at “non-profit” themes.

We’ve currently developed this beta-version WordPress site (http://sage-ing.org/), and have implemented s2Member Pro successfully.

However, we are concerned that s2Member may be incompatible with premium WordPress themes. When we shop around, how will we know a premium theme will support s2Member correctly?

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

Thank you

Hi Randy,

s2Member can be supported by any theme that follows WordPress standards and supports the standard WordPress 3.1+ features (which leaves you with a LOT of themes). On Themeforest, you should not run into any problems at all with incompatibility with s2Member, as these incompatibilities are usually caused by custom themes.

When searching for a theme, look for specific reports of:

  • Shortcodes not functioning correctly
  • Theme not supporting WordPress 3.1+, or the version of WordPress that you’re using
  • Problems with SSL certificates and the theme
  • Issues that were reported specifically for s2Member

If the theme has any of the above issues reported, then it probably will cause issues with s2Member.

This is great feedback Bruce. It will certainly help narrow our searches down for a premium theme.

Thanks so much!

The best way to tell is trying them together. If they have a trial, use it together with s2Member and look for common problems that are usually caused by a theme: paypal button shortcodes, pro-forms, s2Member admin pages.

Short of trying them together, research like what Bruce suggested is very important.
