I am a web designer and don’t know much about backend work, so when projects get more complicated than I can handle I hire via Freelancer. I had been trying to use s2Member because it seemed like a pretty robust system, but I was only using the free version. When I hired someone they told me I would need the pro version in order to complete the customizations I wanted. I bought it and they worked on it for a day, then sent me this message:

“We tried your requirements with s2member plugin but they have not provided all files for customization as they have many files encrypted (s2member code) where we cant see programming code. And that is why we talked with s2member plugin provider as well for this problem. S2Member says that we can not use PayPal button before login when registration time and we can use only one registration form at a time. And suppose we do custom it then we can not handle from admin panel as we have to put default code which is risky as WordPress upgrade version normally and have to rewrite that code.”

They have since started using another plugin that they are able to customize. I now have no use for the s2Member pro. Is there any way I can receive a refund for it?

Hello Chris,

Just checking your quote from your developer, and I noticed a couple of things:

We tried your requirements with s2member plugin but they have not provided all files for customization as they have many files encrypted (s2member code) where we cant see programming code.

I’m pretty sure this is not correct, if the file is not corrupted or encrypted manually, then pretty much nothing is encrypted, since you are supposed to be able to edit this plugin freely. Could you ask them to give you the file names and locations, so that I might also check it out myself. Thanks.

S2Member says that we can not use PayPal button before login when registration time

If I understand this correctly, it means the PayPal button can’t be used before the user is registered. Please confirm that this is true. If it is, then this is very wrong, you are supposed to be able to offer PayPal buttons before the user is registered, otherwise how would they pay? Could you please confirm with your developer this is what he means?

we can use only one registration form at a time

This is correct, but only with the pro-forms, and you can’t use more than one in one page, basically you’re limited to one pro-form per page, but this is easily handled by having a page which redirects to all the pages with the pro-forms.

Again, please confirm with your developer what I asked you. :)
