I have s2member version 3.2.8 and Pro version 1.2.7. I cannot upgrade to the latest version because my programmer customized something or other and it will break my website if I upgrade.

My Unique IP Access Restrictions are set to 2 uniques every 30 days, and it’s set to punish for 2 hours when a new IP violates it.

What I need to know is what are the internal rules here? My user has already used two IPAs and wants to abandon one of them for a third. After his two hour punishment, will he be able to use the third machine? Or are the first two set forever in stone?

If I need to reset or delete his existing IPAs in the system, I note that there is no option for this in the WP dashboard “users” area, as there is on more recent versions. So how do I do this? Or is there some other way to satisfy this user?

Hi Steven.

Well, the Unique IPs restriction’s Maximum Unique IP Addresses Allowed setting says “every 30 days”, so the count is reset every 30 days. I understand the same happens when you hit the reset button. And in the user’s profile when you reset it as well (Reset IP Restrictions).

I’ll email Jason asking him to confirm it.

Also: [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Restriction Options -› Unique IP Access Restrictions[/hilite]

The default period of “30 days” could be modified through this WordPress® Filter:
[hilite mono]ws_plugin__s2member_ip_restrictions__concurrency_time_per_ip[/hilite]

I hope that helps. :)

Yes, that is correct. Any IPs recorded by s2Member will automatically expire after 30 days. In other words, s2Member is only looking at IPs accessing a secure area within the last 30 days. If a User is moving around to different internet connections quite a bit, they might exceed X number of IPs within a single 30 day period. Otherwise, there’s nothing to worry about here. Most users are going to access your site from a max of about 5-10 unique IPs within every 30 day period. That’s pretty fair.

If a User exceeds that limit, the software really needs to assume that the account itself has been compromised in some way (i.e. probably they shared their Username/Password within several other people). A site owner can adjust this configuration a bit from their Dashboard too, in more extreme cases.

How can I manually delete this user’s IPAs so that he can be free to begin using the 2 machines he wants to use without triggering a violation?

Well, you could update your plugin. Just make sure you make a backup of the site first and that you’ve enabled Deactivation Safeguards. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Deactivation Safeguards[/hilite]

Since there’s a big difference in version, you may want to upgrade several times with less difference in version until you bring it up to the current release.

If you have hacks, then you may need to reapply some, depending on how you did them.

All that said, in your version there should still be a reset button, if I’m not mistaken. In the Unique IPs restriction panel there’s a button that resets it for everyone. In the user’s profile page there’s a checkbox you check and then save the changes for the profile. If you don’t find them, could you show me a screenshot of those pages?

Just got confirmation:

Yes. Resetting IP Restrictions removes the ban, and begins counting from 0 again too.
