I have just discovered that the first posts in each topic are not visible to default, subscriber and observer roles. They do show up for keymaster and moderator roles. After reading for a long time, I found another post hinting it may be the alternate view protection. After experimentation, I found that it was the ‘ Comment Feeds’ tab that was doing it (when deactivated the posts appear again). I am only using capabilities at the moment, so do not have anything else that would interfere (that I can find).
Is this a known issue?
Btw, I have just upgraded and the issues are the same.

Thanks for reporting that, Neil. I’ll show it to Jason for his comments.

This is what Jason said after reviewing this:

Jason said:

I just took a quick look at this. I was unable to reproduce the problem with the details provided. Disabling Alt. Views (Comment Feeds) really should not impact this behavior from what I can see in the source code.

Given that IS though, it actually sounds to me like there could be a custom query somewhere in the underlying theme, or from another plugin that is preventing WordPress Conditional Tags from reporting back to s2Member properly.

See: http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/wp_reset_query
Also, I would make an attempt to reproduce this on a clean/test installation with only WP/bbPress/s2 running.

I am using the suffusion theme, which is important for what I need. I will try what you have said to see if there is a conflict somewhere between s2member and suffusion.
Thank you.
