I need to screen new members for a paying forum site using s2member, Paypal Pro and bbpress. There are membership criteria that need to be satisfied. My plan was to set up the forum so that new members can pay and join at L1 on a renewing annual subscription basis and then once I’ve checked they meet the criteria I’ll manually upgrade them to a higher level, which will give them access to the bbpress forum. If they don’t meet the membership criteria (should be rare I hope) then I’ll refund them their payment. It is a little labour intensive but the best solution I could think of.

However, I just realised that I do not know what effect my manual upgrade will have on their annual subscription. Will it:

(a) Break it completely and cancel their subscription at L1
(b) Leave their L1 subscription in place and everything will work nice and smoothly
(c) They will default back to L1 when their subscription renews
(d) Something else I haven’t thought of.

Any help very gratefully received.

Colin.

Hi Colin.

I’ll manually upgrade them to a higher level, which will give them access to the bbpress forum.

That’d work. :)

The subscription would keep goingin the payment gateway, independent of the s2Member Level role set in the user’s profile. Changing the level would not alter the subscription in the payment gateway.

OK, excellent, thanks for getting back to me. I have a follow up query…

If the member cancels their membership at L1 and I have upgraded them to L2, I assume they would retain their L2 membership? I’d rather they didn’t retain L2 membership in this situation but I guess I could always revoke L2 manually.

Thanks again,

Colin.

No, if they cancel their subscription, PayPal would notify s2Member about it and s2Member would set an EOT time for the user. This is independent of the user’s role. When the EOT time is up, the Auto EOT Behavior would happen, which by default is a demotion to Level 0. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Automatic EOT Behavior[/hilite]
