I want to implement a site with potentially 100’s of videos, and I want to sell access to each video individually. Let’s say, at $5 per video. No downloads.

So, a customer can buy access to a web page (on the WordPress site) to stream just one video. And then, if they want, they can buy access to another web page to stream another video. And so on.

I realize that S2member is really designed for selling “subscriptions”, and not really for individual items, but
is there a way to manage the selling of 100’s of individual videos with S2member that is practical?

Hello SS,

Would specific post/page access work for you? Check out this video: Video » s2Member (Specific Posts/Pages)

Also check under Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Restriction Options -› Specific Post/Page Access Restrictions.

Hope this helps. :)

Hi Eduan,

Yes, I’m aware of *HOW* to implement the paywall with S2member to give a customer access to
a streaming video. But MY QUESTION is about scaling — Can S2member manage a site where
there 100’s of INDIVIDUAL streaming videos for sale?

This becomes an issue because S2member is not designed to sell individual “products”. It’s a
membership system.

So, I’m even wondering if there’s an example of an existing S2member site that sells 100’s of
individual products?

Well, it can manage it, no problem, it depends on your server’s power. The problem is since it’s not designed for that, you would have to add and protect each video yourself (which will be a real hassle).

Does this answer your question?

No. When I say “manage” I’m NOT talking about CPU/bandwidth or other performance characteristics. What I’m talking about is having hierarchal product pages and a GUI for managing 100’s or 1000’s of products. Most “shopping cart” type plugins (woocommerce is one example) have these things but S2member does not.

Hi Slim.

Right, s2Member doesn’t have a manager for “products”, since it wasn’t meant to be used for that. Since it was first created, it’s evolved a lot and custom capabilities were added, but a GUI to manage them wasn’t implemented yet. This is something we’re improving in the new s2Member being developed.

You can sell the individual videos protecting them with custom capabilities. Files can be protected with them, as well as the pages where the videos get embedded.

[hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› API / Scripting -› Custom Capability and Member Level Files[/hilite]
[hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Buttons -› Capability (Buy Now) Buttons[/hilite]

I hope that helps. :)
