sticky post woes

I am posting this question in the community forum since it is not directly related to s2member. Nonetheless I hope that somebody has a solution. There are quite a few smart folks around here.
I found out that some sticky posts are not as sticky as normal posts.
What I mean by that is that today I created a sticky post on my site first. In my recent posts widget I want that post to remain on top (hence the selection for a sticky post) But it does not stay on top. Does anybody know of a solution for this? (and NO, I am not a PHP coder, so please, spare me that burden). I now have a sticky post widget but I would rather have it all in one place (recent posts) so if anybody would know of a better plugin for that I would be pleased to know about it.
