Suitable for bike club?

I’m utterly new to this and spooked at the thought of installing such a complex piece of software and starting to shape it. Before plunging in I’d like to hear whether S2 is even a suitable or appropriate package to use.

What I need is a way to register the members of our bike club, track their membership and remind them to re-register each year. The website will continue to be completely public; the only pages to be restricted would be the ones you get to while registering. People will pay for one of 3 levels of membership via Pay Pal. Membership is nominally for one year; however, anyone who signs up after Sept 1 gets membership through the following year. I’ll need to import the approx 150 existing members to email them re re-registering for 2013. I can’t think of what else to add — it’s just a bike club.

S2 seems capable of way, way more than I need, so I’m wondering if it’s the right thing to choose — I’m only looking at it because it has sufficient info that I can see it could work (I think). But, perhaps such modest needs should be served by some less elaborate plugin?

I’d appreciate any knowledgable input on how/whether to proceed with S2 or other suggestions.

This is possible, with a single hack though, specifically for the reminder.

Membership is nominally for one year; however, anyone who signs up after Sept 1 gets membership through the following year.

This is also possible, but you will need some code to check if it’s September 1, or after, and before the new year. Or you can manually change this button/pro-form to reflect the correct membership depending on the date.

From where are you importing the users from? The import feature is only available through s2Member pro if I’m not mistaken, I believe WordPress has it’s own import/export features, but not sure how they work with s2Member.

Hmm. Well, I wouldn’t be doing any hacks, little or big, so the reminder may be out.
I guess I (or someone) could reset the duration of membership every Sept to take care of that part.
The import would be from CSV. If that can’t be done readily, it’s a small enough club that I suppose we could ask everyone to do their own initial registration.

Yeah, I really think asking the users to register again is not a big problem, in fact I think it’s another step for security. :)

Just make a normal button, and ask them to pay again, but give them an extra amount of time to make up for any time they might lose from their previous subscription. ;)
