Is it possible to create a member who has to pay for the membership, and then have that member create memberships for his or her students who would not have to pay? We want to be able to sell the courses on our site to teachers and leave it to the teachers to set up their class on the site.

Hello Marc,

I’m afraid s2Member doesn’t have this kind of structure yet.

The closest you can get to this AFAIK is like what’s described in this video: Video » s2Member (Client Portals?)

The traditional WP roles (administrator, editor, author, contributor, subscriber) map to the S2Member member levels (level 5, level 4, etc) – no? What about setting up one role with the User Role Editor plug-in to only allow that role to add/create users? Then, with S2member, sell that level of membership (call it the ‘Teacher’ member). The teacher could then add his or her students with the create user role but could not edit or delete the courses or make other changes. Do you think combining the plug-ins UserRole Editor and s2Member together that way would work?

Ooops, I see my misunderstanding in the above post. All S2Member members are at the same core WP user level: subscriber. There is no hierarchy as in core WP user roles. So I now see my theory won’t work. If you used User Role Editor to add functionality to the subscriber role, and sold a level1 membership to a teacher, all the level0 members would also be subscribers with the same added functionality.

Any additional comments? TIA,

Yes that is correct.

So technically you would have to create your own custom roles, and modify s2Member so that it works with those roles, or something along those lines.

In the end though, if you want to use s2Member for something like this you’ll definitely have to dive into the code and modify s2Member.
