Hello,

We purchased s2 several weeks ago and developed our site on one domain name, however we have since changed the domain and had our wordpress developer move the site.

We didn’t have any members logged and after reading about challenges associated with transfers decided to uninstall and reinstall after transfered new site. However, upon reinstalling it many of our previous settings were saved, so it apparently wasn’t the clean install we had planned. The errors we’ve been getting thus far include:

1) Inability to modify confirmation email. When we change the settings it redirects to our homepage and the settings arent saved.

2)Success page redirects to our membership options page after setting shortcode to success=”thank-you”, which had previously worked on our staging site.

I attempted to enable logging, but it hasn’t shown any error logs yet (even though there are some glitches occurring).

If you could help us rectify the problem or tell me how I can do a clean install that would be great. It’s really crucial that this works flawlessly as we start our fundraising campaign very shortly!

Thanks!

Hello Salar,

What steps did you take in all the process of installing WordPress and s2Member?

For it to be a “clean” install you have to do it from zero, new database is the most important part, and of course new files (WordPress itself, in other words).

Hello Eduan,

Yes, I realize it wasn’t a clean install because it imported data when I reinstalled it…

I removed s2 member using the uninstall plugin wordpress feature. We hired a developer to move the site to the new domain, and this involved using the same database but cleaning it up/optimizing it. When the site itself was functioning smoothly we reinstalled s2 member.

This was when I realized there was still data in the database from the previous install because it pulled settings from before.

Now, short of starting over and re-doing the entire site (as would be necessary with a new database?), what options do we have?

Thank you

Well, if what causes the problem with s2Member, is the previous installation of s2Member you had then there’s a simple solution.

Simple deactivate deactivation safeguards (which you can find under Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Deactivation Safeguards) and disable/uninstall s2Member. When you enable/install it again all it’s settings will be gone, and s2Member’s settings should be new from zero.

Thanks Eduan, unfortunately that didn’t seem to fix the issue though.

Would it be possible for Jason, or one of the other developers to have a look at the site? The idea that the only way to get s2 member working again is to start over seems rather daunting right now.

Thanks for the heads up on this thread :-)

1) Inability to modify confirmation email. When we change the settings it redirects to our homepage and the settings arent saved.

2)Success page redirects to our membership options page after setting shortcode to success=”thank-you”, which had previously worked on our staging site.

This sounds like mild database corruption (an incomplete migration). I would suggest that you go back to the developer that assisted you. This really falls outside the scope of our support. It sounds like your database did not get fully migrated over; or something was corrupted during the transition in some way.

Hi Jason,

Thanks for the reply, we’ve been working with him to try and get the issue resolved, but he can’t figure it out.

He fixed some issues but now one large issue remains, the pro forms are not incorporating the first and last name into the user profiles. All other data seems to input correctly.

Any thoughts? We would really like to avoid having to start from scratch as it’s been a fairly time consuming site to build.

Thanks for your help

Sam, have you tried the troubleshooting tips? Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips

Maybe there a conflict causing the pro-forms problem you mention. Also, as a test, could you do a clean installation of WP with just s2Member and try the pro-form there to see if you can reproduce the problem without all the other things/changes you may have in the current installation?

Thanks for your reply, we started from scratch, new WP installation, new database etc and it is now working again.

That’s wonderful. Thanks for the update! I’m very glad you solved it. :)
