Line from vars returned from API from my logs

Good news …. did a bit more Googling and ran across this old article:
http://www.corecommerce.com/kb/144/verisign_payflow_pro_user_authentication_failed_error

I pasted the text below …..

Even though this article is a few years old, apparently the Payflow API still doesn’t like special characters in the password.

After making a change, I got in. Now I’m dealing with errors about invalid CVV2 codes ….. but at least I’ve made progress.

Hope that helps someone.

User authentication failed error is caused by one or more of the following:

*Login information is incorrect. Verify that USER, VENDOR, PARTNER, and PASSWORD have been entered correctly. VENDOR is your merchant ID and USER is the same as VENDOR unless you created a Payflow Pro user. All fields are case sensitive.

NOTE: You can’t have special characters like #, !, etc. in your password for verisign.

*Invalid Processor information entered. Contact merchant bank to verify.

*”Allowed IP Address” security feature implemented. The transaction is coming from an unknown IP address. See PayPal Manager online help for details on how to use Manager to update the allowed IP addresses.

*You are using a test (not active) account to submit a transaction to the live PayPal servers. Change the host address from the test server URL to the live server URL.

My call to PayPal and watching Dave’s video unfortunately only confirmed that I DO have a PayPal Pro (Payflow Edition) account and that I AM using the correct information for the Payflow settings in s2member. Recurring billing was also been verified as being turned on.

I’ve checked and rechecked everything 10 times and it’s still not working. Here is the most recent entry from my log file.

All I get is “Error #1. User authentication failed.”

Jim,

I also didn’t find the API credentials where specified. I ended up creating a new user within PayPal Manager and choosing API_FULL_TRANSACTIONS as the Role.

Still not working for me though …. all I get on my s2member Proform (and in the log) is Error #1. User authentication failed.”

I plan to call Paypal tonight to verify exactly what type of an account I have.

I created a PayPal Sandbox Account and it does have everything laid out just like s2member docs say it should. So I suspect that I somehow got setup with separate PayPal Pro and PayFlow accounts. No bueno.

Thanks … I suspect that the part that I am missing is having “Recurring Billing” on the account.

I’ll contact PayPal.

Hey Cristian,

Any word back on this? We’re all anxious to launch site. This is the last remaining issue to be dealt with.

Thanks,

Looks like this person on Stack Overflow had a similar question — not about s2member, but about the different flavors of Paypal Pro accounts

http://stackoverflow.com/questions/10747564/paypal-pro-payflow-edition-api-questions/10747680#10747680

Perhaps, I don’t have the recurring billing feature turned on?

Anyway, I’m hoping that whatever it is, it’s just a switch that Paypal needs to flip, and not another 2-3 day application process.
