We have been recently noticing some problems with some of our potential paid members attempting to sign up and instantly finding their accounts are cancelled within paypal (transactions failing for some reason) – the members are also receiving an email stating their account is ready and payment has been taken (even though it hasn’t)

All issues of this kind appear to be using PayPal website payments pro (using pro generated forms), although we have had payments go through successfully in the past using the same setup.

After several hours of head scratching we need your help!

Hi Paul.

Could make sure you have logging enabled and that these transactions have been logged? [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Log Files (Debug) -› Logging Configuration[/hilite]

Then please submit your site’s info so we can review the logs. Please include the IDs of the transactions that had this problem, so we can find the related entries. Thanks! s2Member® » Private Contact Form

Hi Cristián,

Logging has been enabled since the installation of the plugin (thankfully!) and I have sent the details using the private contact form along with a txt file containing some ID’s that relate to some of the failed payments.

Thanks, got the email.

I’m looking at the IPN log and see a ton of entries with wrong custom attribute, instead of the domain name, it says:

'custom' => '1341081605:3968:1:a819d4fd6687723c5fe75cd910a78b51',

You need to find where that is happening and fix it with the correct domain name, as it given in the shortcode generator for the custom attribute. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms -› Shortcode Attributes -> custom[/hilite]

About the subscriptions you told me, the entries for their cancellations include these lines:

‘txn_type’ => ‘recurring_payment_profile_cancel’,
‘initial_payment_status’ => ‘Failed’,
5 => ‘Awake. It\’s Tue Mar 26, 2013 3:26:31 pm UTC. s2Member `txn_type` identified as ( `subscr_eot|recurring_payment_expired|recurring_payment_suspended_due_to_max_failed_payment` ) – or – `recurring_payment_profile_cancel` w/ `initial_payment_status` ( `failed` ).’,
6 => ‘Member Level/Capabilities demoted to: Subscriber.’,

The problem here is being that the payment is not successful, but PayPal first told s2Member that it’ okay so s2Member proceeds with the signup confirmation.

Could you try changing the setting for the number of attempts, so that instead of twice, it just tries once? [hilite mono]rra="1"[/hilite]. See if that works. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms -› Shortcode Attributes -> rra[/hilite]

Hi Cristián,

Thanks for having a look for us, we’ve attempted the rra=”1″ change as you mentioned and this has had no effect as just this morning a payment failed yet the member received the ‘Thank you your membership has been approved’ email.

We’re also very confused as to why the custom field is ending up as completely unrelated numbers as the custom field is always set to www. ourdomain.com on every shortcode used. Would be very appreciative if you have any suggestions as to why this might be happening.

Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for the follow-up.

Could you try running the s2Member Server Scanner? Also, can you post a copy of a shortcode that you’re using?

See: Knowledge Base » s2Member® Server Scanner

It sounds like your queries are being corrupted somehow.

If you want to stop allowing failed payments you can change the option here to keep Users from being able to sign up on a failed payment:

Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -> Recurring Profile Behavior
