I’m wondering if I even need s2member…

My job is to build a extensive Job board website geared towards specific job professionals, something like care.com

I’ve seen job board plugins like wp-jobboard , but I am wondering if I really need s2member to accomplish what I am looking to do.

Any suggestions/advice would be helpful.

Hi Laura,

Without further details it’s hard to say if s2Member could be used for your scenario. Could you please explain a bit more what types of content you’d be adding and what types of restrictions would be in place?

– New Members join with basic membership (free) to build online profile, profile for message board and job board.

– There will be 2 User Roles – the Job Seeker can choose from basic (free) or elite (paid) membership options. The Job Poster will only have one membership type, free, they can post jobs, respond to the applicants, and contact other users via PM.

– The Job Seeker can choose from basic (free) or elite (paid), can look at job postings but can’t Apply for the job. They would need to upgrade to to be able to apply and also post their profiles/resumes

– Both the Job Seeker and Job Poster will have access to a blog where they can make comments and stuff

– The user will need to register with at least a basic membership (the free one) for any access to the content.

– All members should have the ability to contact each via PM that will notify the user through the email listed on the account.

– Members will be able to search for the Job Seekers that have posted their Profiles/Resumes via City/State and Zip Code

I hope that helps.

I emailed the support team at WPJobBoard and asked them their thoughts and this is what they had to say…

in WPJB both emplloyers and candidates are registered as Subscribers
(the difference between them is that employer has meta field
is_employer set to 1), so i am not sure if you will be able to
integrate with s2Member to provide the membership functionality.

I would say no since s2member won’t be able to distinguish between
employer and candidate.

Can you let me know if s2member would be able to distinguish between both roles?

Well, the Subscriber role is what s2Member considers Level 0, a free account. s2Member doesn’t check for meta fields like the one they mentioned.

You could create a customization that will update that meta field depending on what you sold them with s2Member, though. This is not something we can do for you, but you could look for a WP developer in freelance sites like jobs.wordpress.net.

I hope that helps. :)
