Hello and thanks for your help in advance. I have Custom Capabilities set up so that I may have many memberships available only through Level One at this time. That being said, I have a subfolder set up in the s2member files folder titled hflbible (paypal button is created and works fine). I then put the PDF download of the ebook in that folder. From what I understood, any member that purchased that membership with the ccap of hflbible would then be able to download the files I have in the folder (yes, the file is uploaded through my FTP).

I have tried the various links available though all the help, but I think I am missing something. Before I go and share everything I’ve tried could you please tell me how I should go about setting set this up. Currently I have a link on the page that once clicked, I thought would download the PDF file, but I get ‘page not found’.

Thank you.

Hello Melanie,

Could you please share the shortcode that you’re using to generate the download link? Could you please share the folder hierarchy that you have in your s2member-files so that we can check if it’s correct?

Also, perhaps this article helps you: Knowledge Base » Resolving Problems with File Downloads

Thank you so much for getting back to me :)

Hierarchy ~
public html-
wp-content –
plugins –
s2member pro –
s2member files –
.htaccess
hflbible (folder)
HFL Bible (c) 2012.pdf

the .htaccess within this s2member files folder – then a folder hflbible under htaccess and the pdf download (HFL Bible (c) 2012.pdf) within that hflbible folder.

I have ccap set up for hflbible for Level One and I plan on various ‘memberships” within Level One, thus the custom capabilities.

In the Basic Download Restrictions this is the link provided to me:

http://heartforlearning.com/?s2member_file_download=example-file.zip

So I enter this link:
http://heartforlearning.com/?s2member_file_download=HFL Bible (c) 2012.pdf.

I know I’m missing something and in fact I’ve tried various options including ccap or in the link code or even the subdirectory link examples.

After looking at the hierarchy, does each sub-folder need it’s own .htaccess or can that simply be lumped in the s2member-files where all the sub-folders with the ccap will go?

I’ve looked over the article you linked and I don’t know yet if that is my problem or if this is an error on my end. Thank you for your help. Melanie

So the ccap protected folder is named hflbible correct? And it’s protected with the ccap named “hflbible” (without the quotes) correct?

First, try renaming this folder to access-s2member-ccap-hlfbible. Otherwise it won’t be protected by ccaps. :)

The file you’re offering for download is named “HFL Bible (c) 2012.pdf” (without the quotes) correct? This is not a valid file name. Try renaming it to “HFL-Bible-(c)-2012.pdf” (without the qoutes) for example. Because spaces are not valid in a URL. ;)

The URL would now be:
http://heartforlearning.com/?s2member_file_download=access-s2member-ccap-hlfbible/HLF-Bible-(c)-2012.pdf

Tell me how it goes. :)

Thank you. You are correct in both questions above.

I changed the folder name to access-s2member-ccap-hlfbible and I changed the file name to HFL-Bible-(c)-2012.pdf. I tried using the URL suggested and I am now getting an HTTP 404 File not found….

I must also add, for some reason I have two folders on my server that state s2member-files. One is located within the hierarchy I described above (where I have the files sitting) and the other is located just outside the s2memberpro folder under (not within) s2member-logs. It has the exact same name: s2member-files with an .htaccess within the file. I also tried moving the s2member-ccap-hlfbible to this folder to see if that would work and it didn’t. I still receive the HTTP 404 error.

Thoughts… :)

So, you have two s2member-files folders? Would you please confirm the exact location of these (as in wp-content/plugins/s2member-files).

That is correct… wp-content – plugins – s2member-files – it sits outside the s2memberpro folder. There is one also with in the s2member-pro folder. The one within the s2member pro folder is where the files go when I put them on the server through my FTP connection.

I’ve looked at that article and disabled the gzip configuration, still not working. I’m still getting HTTP 404 error.

more thoughts…. :)
thanks

I see. It’s possible that’s the problem. The folder inside the s2member-pro folder shouldn’t be used… in fact I’m not sure why it’s there.

You should put your files in the folder under wp-content/plugins/s2member-files.

If I understood correctly, even if you move the folder to this folder (the one outside s2member-pro) it still doesn’t work correct?

Sorry, I’ve been offline for a day or so. Yes, that is correct… I’ve deleted the s2member-files folder that was within the s2memberpro folder and kept the one outside and the download still isn’t working….

I have a page that is “locked” with the ccap hflbible and I have a link on the page for the download.

http://heartforlearning.com/?s2member_file_download=access-s2member-ccap-hlfbible/HLF-Bible-(c)-2012.pdf

Can you think of something else I’m missing?

Thank you :)
