Hi, I am having difficulty figuring out what I did wrong with email configuration. Here is what is happening.
1. When I or someone else test registers, we never get the email with username and password.
I installed the E-Mail Log plugin and it shows that the emails are being sent.
2. The confirmation that a new user has registered is going to the appropriate address at my web host. (These emails are supposed to be forwarded to my personal email but that is not working in case that is related to my problem).
3. I have installed WP Mail SMTP plugin but am unsure how to fill out the SMTP (who is my smtp host and port?)options and if I should have general S2 Member options for email set to WordPress or to S2Member.

Thank you for any guidance you can provide.

Dawn

Hello Dawn,

What provider are you using for the email address with which you have problems? Yahoo, GMail, HotMail etc.

If possible, could you try with several of these? Because for some reason the emails are not arriving at your inbox even though it did get sent.

I installed the WP Mail SMTP plugin and ran a couple of test emails and the result was this:

SMTP -> FROM SERVER:220-server15.websitehostserver.net ESMTP Exim 4.80 #2 Thu, 07 Mar 2013 09:12:18 -0600
220-We do not authorize the use of this system to transport unsolicited,
220 and/or bulk e-mail.

I see, the problem is most probably caused by your server then, judging by that log entry.

The thing to do here would be to contact your server provider and ask them to allow WordPress to send emails.

Thanks Eduan,
I now understand it is not an S2Member issue. Unfortunately, my web hosting company does not feel it is an issue on their end either. I tried testing that theory by sending emails directly from the email panel and they were not delivered. Back to the drawing board, but thank you for your help.

Well, if your server providers insist that WordPress is able to send emails, however it isn’t able to, then you gotta convince them. lol

Simply point them to this thread, or give them the log entry. They should be able to know where the error comes from.
