My client’s site at http://www.amistrategies.com cannot currently send confirmation emails to users or administrators via S2member. This is because the domain is only directed to my host through an A-record. That means site hosting is handled by my host (dreamhost), but email hosting is handled by the client’s internal email exchange server (Microsoft Exchange Server). I couldn’t point the nameservers at my host (dreamhost) because of this, and that’s why the A-record change was used.

The client does not want to switch to allowing email to be exchanged and hosted by Dreamhost. Is there anyway to specify a separate email server, such as the client’s Microsoft Exchange server? Can this be custom coded relatively simply? I’d be willing to pay at least a small sum for that.

Please help.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Dean.

This would be a more general WordPress question, not just s2Member. I think it’d be best to ask in a WordPress forum, I’m sure there’ll be guys there that’d know how to answer this.

I’m not sure if this article will help you with this, though: Knowledge Base » Troubleshooting Email Delivery Problems

I hope it helps. :)

Christian,

It looks like the problem I’m having can be solved easily enough with a plugin that allows SMTP mailing from wordpress through a specified server. Thanks for pointing out that it’s actually a wordpress related issue, as that got my brain thinking about what I actually needed for a solution. I don’t expect any problems. Here’s the plugin I expect to use: http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/configure-smtp/faq/

Thanks!

Christian,

BTW: Could you please ad the following quoted text to the thread I’m about to link to below. I finally solved a big problem I was facing that I suspect some other users will com searching for in the future. I hate it when I read through a thread only find that the final solution to the problem is never explained. So frustrating. Anyway below is the conclusion I’d like to add to the thread in question, as well as the link to that thread:

“After much hassle with this problem, I finally came to the conclusion that WP Engine’s architecture as a whole was preventing the signup process from completing correctly. I decided to transfer to a new host (Dreamhost). I actually had to move my development site from a subdomain over (rather than the live version installed on WP Engine, which was giving me the registration problem). The reason is that WP Engine has custom installation files, due to their architecture, and cannot be so simply transferred to a new host. Once I transferred the development site over and adjusted the necessary settings in S2 Member, everything worked flawlessly.

The final solution to this problem is then this: Don’t try to use S2 Member and WP Engine together. While WP Engine has great support and went out of their way to try to help, I decided that my problem had turned into one of those ‘black hole’ problems in web-development that very few people have. I don’t like unique web-devel problems like that, because it’s hard to find people who can solve them or have solved them. I’ve seen S2 Member work flawlessly on 3 sites and 2 different hosts. Clearly, this was a WP Engine issue. If you’re fighting this same problem, is suggest you change hosts. That should fix it for you.”

Christian: Please post that final summary to: http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/user-registration-is-currently-not-allowed-2/

Thanks!

– Austin
