I am looking to create a free forum and several paid forums on my site. The paid forums would be like 4-6 week classes that would need to regenerate for new students. I currently have s2member pro and bbpress . Can I do this with these two installed or do I need to integrate buddy press as well and just create a new group each time I have a new class?

Hello,

I don’t know of any feature in BuddyPress or bbPress that allows you to “regenerate” for new students, but s2Member can certainly restrict areas in both of those plugins using the URI Restrictions (Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Restriction Options -› URI Access Restrictions).

Do I need both plugins? Or will bbpress be able to handle the free forum plus the paid forum AND have different moderators (instructors) for the different subjects? I want to have multiple classes going simultaneously but keep the classes private from each other. Can all that be done just using bbpress and URI restrictions? Is there a tutorial on using the URI restrictions?

The other option I thought of was to have the free forum handled by bbpress and the paid classes handled by buddy press. Each time a class starts up I would then set a new group and moderator for that class. Is that a more direct approach or have I complicated it too much?

I’m not sure if you could protect parts of bbPress as you say. The documentation says that protecting a forum won’t protect the topics in it automatically. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Other Integrations -› bbPress®[/hilite]

it is currently NOT possible to protect a Forum, and have all Topics inside that Forum protected automatically.

If that isn’t a problem for what you want to do, you could read the rest of the documentation for it, and watch this video: Video » s2Member (bbPress Bridge Integration)

You can also experiment with it, installing bbPress and trying out the restrictions to see if you can set up what you need.

The URI restriction is very simple to use, you can read the documentation here: [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Restriction Options -› URI Access Restrictions[/hilite]
