I have members who are Authors who also need to have unlimited downloads. How do I go about doing this?

What membership level are these Authors? Did you configure 9999999999 for an unlimited download count in s2Member yet? See: s2Member -› Download Options -› Basic Download Restrictions

Membership #7 is 999999999. This is the one that I need to have author permissions as well.

So the problem you’re having is how to make them Authors, or how to give them unlimited downloads?

I suggest that you install this plugin: http://wordpress.org/plugins/user-role-editor/

This will allow you to modify the Author Role on your installation, and give Authors the s2Member Capabilities they will need to also be Members of your site; and not just Authors.

Is this plugin created by S2Member? If not, isn’t there some way to do it without having to install a new plugin?

s2Member® does NOT officially support back-end restrictions, so I can’t give detailed support on this, but Mike’s suggestion is a good one. s2Member® is designed to protect and sell content to Users/Members, and NOT to protect or restrict administrative areas of your Dashboard. At least, not officially. We have site owners that do this with s2Member®, but it requires a good working knowledge of WordPress® and Roles/Capabilities.
