Hello,

I am working on a site that will provide free and restricted content under four main content categories. The goal is to sell access to any one of the four site sections at a given price, and access to the additional categories at a reduced price. Like this:

If unregistered user 1 purchases access to site section 1 for $X, then consequent or subsequent access to sections 2 through 4 is available at $Y per section.

If unregistered user 2 purchases access to site section 2 for $X, then consequent or subsequent access to sections 1, 3, or 4 is available at $Y per section.

And so forth, for any combination of section accesses.

For users with existing access to one or more site sections, access to additional site sections is available at $Y per section.

I’m trying to figure out whether s2Member Pro can accomplish this goal, and if so, how it should be set up.

Thank you,

Joe Bloom

Hi Joe,

Yes, s2Member can handle this scenario.

You would simply use the s2Member conditionals (see Dashboard -› s2Member® -› API / Scripting -› Simple/Shortcode Conditionals) to control who sees what. You’d display a Pro-Form configured with price X to users who are not logged in and a Pro-Form configured with price Y for users who are logged in.

Keep in mind that when presenting logged-in users with a signup form, you must use the Billing Modification form (see Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Buttons -› Subscr. Modification Buttons and Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms -› Billing Modification Forms). An existing member cannot use the same signup forms as those for non-existent users.

Thanks very much for the quick reply!

Would this setup enable a new user to sign up for initial access at price X and additional accesses at price Y in a single checkout transaction?

Joe

Hi Joe,

What you’re describing sounds like a shopping cart, where members add multiple things to their cart with certain items discounted if they’re already purchasing other items. s2Member was originally designed as a membership plugin using the subscription-model. However, we’ve added features to account for the needs of selling individual items or additional “capabilities” on top of memberships. We call this feature Custom Capabilities.

You can sell individual Custom Capabilities on a one-time basis, or sell them packaged together with a membership. However, if you want a shopping cart type system that discounts specific Custom Capabilities depending on which membership the user is purchasing, you’ll need to write the necessary PHP code for that customization. (All of the source code is available and we provide many hooks/filters for customization.)
