suppose someone has a free membership, but decides to upgrade to a $20/year membership. At that point I would like them to have to fill out some custom fields, but if they are signed in, then the custom fields do not show up.

how do I correct this?

I need people to provide more information in order to upgrade their membership.

Thank you for your inquiry.

You can set up Registration/Profile fields at certain levels when you create them. The field to decide when they should be shown is here:
