We are testing the S2 free Plugin and have it integrated with iDevAffiliate.. We would like to purchase the Pro version but need to make sure it works for us with our commission structure. We have installed and configured both S2 and iDevAffiliate.

We offer 3 monthly subscription plans to our clients ( $99/month, $149/month, and $199/month). We only use the Paypal gateway.

We want to give our affiliates a one-time commission equal to 100% of the monthly subscription amount. So if the client buys a $99/mo subscription, the affiliate will get $99 commission. We do NOT want the affiliate to get any recurring commission and we do NOT want the affiliate to get any commission if the client upgrades the plan from a $99 plan to a higher plan like $149 plan.

Here is the iDevAffiliate tracking pixel code that we generated for S2 – for NEW Subscriptions – commission based on “regular” subscription price ( we have removed the img tag syntax so you can see the code)

Here is the iDevAffiliate tracking pixel code that we generated for S2 – for UPGRADES – commission based on “regular” subscription price

In iDevAffiliate we have only 1 commission level and no tiers. We have Activate Pay-Per-Sale (Percentage)? Checked to yes Payout Level 1 set to 100%. AND Enable Recurring Commissions Option? set to NO.

Will our current setup achieve what we want – to only give a 1 time commission to affiliate and NOT give any recurring commissions to affiliate and NOT give commission to affiliate if client upgrades to a higher plan?

Please let us know. Thank You

Hector Torres

Hi Hector,

That sounds like it should work. Have you tried testing it? This is really a question for iDevAffiliate, so I suggest contacting their support team to see if they can offer any suggestions.

Hi Raam,

We posed the same questions to iDevAffiliate support prior to posting the question here and they told us to contact S2 support for help.

About recurring commissions:
We can not test our configuration due to the fact that we would need to wait a month until the next payment is received from our TEST Paypal account. I read another question posted on this forum by someone who could not get the recurring commissions to work. That user was told to setup “s2Member® API / Notifications” in order to tell iDevAffiliate to give out recurring commissions. We have NOT configured anything in “s2Member® API / Notifications” and we do NOT want to give out recurring commissions. So it is safe to assume that S2 by default will NOT tell iDevAffiliate to give a commission for each payment of a Paypal subscription received ( and only give commission for the first payment )?

About Subscription Upgrades:
Does S2 by default tell iDevAffiliate to give out a commission when a user upgrades his subscription to a higher amount? This scenario we can test and we’ll do that today.

Hi Hector.

If you’re not telling iDev about each monthly payments, then iDev would not know about them, which would prevent recurring commissions, if I’m not mistaken. The Tracking API that is normally used to integrate with iDev, doesn’t have an equivalent to the Payments Notification. The Tracking API does have the Signup Tracking, which is when a new, paying member signs up.

You can do your tests with a very cheap payment, even as low as 1 cent, and make the payments to be daily instead of monthly, so you can confirm much sooner if it’s working.

About upgrades, you’d have to use the Modification Tracking for that.

I hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the heads up on this thread.

Yes, that’s certainly possible to accomplish. I recommend that you integrate s2Member with iDevAffiliate, via API Payment Notifications. This way anytime an actual payment comes through, iDevAffiliate will be notified silently behind-the-scene. This would account for initial and/or recurring charges. It will also account for upgrades made after an initial sale takes place.

Hello Jason,

Thanks for the comment about integrating via “API Payment Notifications”. In our case, we do NOT want to give any commissions for recurring payments or for upgrades. Our concern was that maybe S2 by default was setup to give recurring commissions.

So we have opted to only integrate iDevAffiliate using the “API / Tracking” settings and we have left the “API Payment Notifications” untouched.

BTW Jason, great job on this plugin. We love it. We’re using it on our site for members that sign up for our
WordPress Maintenance Plan. Here is our site:

Feel free to use us as a reference to potential S2 plugin users.
