I have a few questions about s2member that will help me understand whether s2member can help me achieve my goal or not:

I am developing a website for beginner musicians. Essentially, it will be a listing directory for music. Some of musicians have requested to list their songs as premium content. Meaning it has to be purchased before having access to those songs. Therefore my scenario lies as following:

user A logins to website (wordpress account)

He sees a selection of music:

song1
song2(premium)
song3
song4(premium)

Each song belongs to a different musician. User A decides he wants to purchase song2 and song4. Song2 and song4 leads to _different_ paypal account as it is different people. Upon purchase of song, it is recorded in user A wordpress account (so that he can redownload it again if necessary), an encrypted link with download is provided (so that ‘sharing’ would not occur). Download link is obviously different too as songs are different. My website does not incur any charges on top. Note: paypal accounts are merchant accounts, but not business type.

Is this possible to achieve this with s2member?

Sincerely,
Alexander.

Hi Alexander,

Unfortunately s2Member is not designed to support multiple merchant accounts in the way that you described. You can only have one merchant account.

Hi Alexander,

Another support member gave me a few ideas for how you’d be able to make this scenario work with s2Member:

You could use Custom Capabilities and create a Custom Capability for each music file.

You’d need to create an upload feature for the musicians that uploads their song into a folder in plugins/s2member-files/ so that the song is protected by s2Member. Then, you’d have your musicians create PayPal buttons using their own PayPal accounts but following these instructions to integrate their button with your s2Member installation (they’ll also need to add the Custom Capability for that song to the PayPal button when they create it).

When a purchaser uses one of those PayPal buttons to purchase a song, the IPN message from PayPal indicating the purchase was complete will also include the Custom Capability for that song and the Custom Capability will be added to that users account, thereby giving them access to download the song (you’d have a page set up with a download link for the song that requires the Custom Capability for that song).

You could use Advanced Download Restrictions to protect the download links on the download pages (see Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Download Options -› Advanced Download Restrictions).
