This might sound strange, but I believe that my S2Member plugin is deleting itself. I’ve installed it twice now. Over the course of several weeks, it has disappeared both times.

I’m not really sure what might be causing this. The only thing that I can think of is that it might have something to do with our WordPress Multisite installation. Perhaps we’re not uploading it to the correct area during installation?

Any insight to this problem would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
David

Hi David.

No idea, really…

Does your site have some kind of backup restore thing or cron that may cause it? s2Member doesn’t go deleting itself, and if you had it active and working, I don’t the installation may have been wrong, or it wouldn’t have worked at all.

These are the installation instructinos:
s2Member® » Framework » Install/Upgrade Instructions
s2Member® » Pro » Install/Upgrade Instructions

Ah, it’d be good to verify that the Deactivation Safeguards are enabled, so you don’t lose all your s2Member data when the plugin gets deactivated (this include plugin updates).

Not sure what to advice, other than ask your web host if they have some kind of log that may show what happened with the s2Member folder.

Let us know how it goes, please. Hopefully you’ll find the source of the problem and solve it without too much trouble.

What if the the plugin is being completely removed? There are are no traces of any of the files in the plugins folder. It’s my assumption that this would work for deactivating the plugin, but not if it has been completely removed?

The plugin files are separate from the plugin data, which is stored in the database. The Deactivation Safeguards allow you to deactivate the plugin and not lose any settings. However, if you deactivate and then delete the plugin from within WordPress, additional WordPress routines are run that also remove information about the plugin from the database, which would (should) delete your s2Member data as well.

However, if the plugin is disappearing, I would suspect that you have something else going on, probably something specific to your server configuration. It could be like Cristian suggested and be related to an automated backup/restore that’s happening, or it could be a piece of security software running on your server that is deleting the plugin. I’ve never seen either of these, but that’s the best I can think of. The plugin has no way of removing itself, so it’s definitely something other than the plugin causing this.
