Setup on a local server not working.

First let me say, what a fantastic product. I had to install on a live server because it would not work on xampp. Still doesn’t. Right on activation it crashes wordpress error 500.

If I empty .htaccess it activates but nothing really works, can’t add stuff. Put ::

RewriteBase /xampp/wp0125/
RewriteCond %{QUERY_STRING} (^|?|&)s2member_file_download=.+

back in .htaccess and it crashes again. Tried putting define(“LOCALHOST”, true); into config.php, deactivate, reactivate and same thing. Help. I would love to work on this locally. Should I be using another wamp product?
