Hi,

The Signup Confirmation Emails are not getting through after a Paypal transaction. I’ve read through all the support and still can’t work out what is wrong.

The following emails ALL get through.
– Free sign up registration emails get delivered
– Emails direct from Paypal after payment details have been entered get delivered & payments take place
– The post registration email gets delivered if I grab the registration URL from the log and get to the registration page manually.

When I originally had issues with the sign up confirmation not getting through I installed the plugin WP-Mail-SMTP. This is set up to send through PHP mailer, the SMTP host is ‘local’, use TLS encryption, and Yes: Use SMTP authentication.

Other things I think you need to know in order to be able to help me….

– I’m just on normal Paypal (not paypal pro or flow).

– I’ve installed the latest version of S2Member & have S2Member Pro.

– After Paypal sign up, they get redirected back to the correct page saying it may take up to 15mins for the emails to get through.

– I’ve tested it both with open registration on and off.

– Our host server says there shouldn’t be any issues with email deliverability.

– the only plugins running are BP My Home, BuddyPress, s2Member® Framework, WP-Mail-SMTP, WP Mail Log

Thank you for reporting this important issue.

I’m very sorry for the delay in response.

In the future please do not post log files in the open forum, it contains insecure information. If we need your logs we will ask for them through Private Contact Form.

There are known issues with the WP-Mail-SMTP plugin and s2Member. Can you try deactivating both WP-Mail-SMTP and WP Mail Log, and running another test transaction, and see if it goes through please? If it does not, try running this Server Scanner:

Hi – thanks for getting back to me. I switched off those 2 plugins and only received the paypal emails but still no sign up confirmation.

I’ve now added the server scanner file to the root directory via ftp but I’m not sure what to do from here. I’m not technical. It says ‘Now open your web browser and visit: /s2-server-scanner.php for a full report’ but when I do that it can’t find a file. I’ve also looked in the Editor section of wordpress but can’t find a file called server scanner there either.

Hi Bruce,

I managed to get the server scanner working. Everything got a green tick.

The only thing it mentioned was the following: ‘Although NOT required, s2Member® recommends that you raise your WordPress® memory limit (please set: WP_MEMORY_LIMIT in /wp-config.php), to at least 64M. I don’t imagine this is the cause though?

Any other thoughts?

Thanks!

Thanks for trying the server scanner. The memory limit mentioned wouldn’t prevent the Signup Confirmation Email from being sent.

I’d like to take a look at your log files. Could you please submit your site’s info? Let me know when you sent it. Thanks! s2Member® » Private Contact Form

Thanks, got the email.

I see in the log that on May 22nd you had a transaction that mentions the Signup Confirmation Email having been sent:

5 => 'Signup Confirmation Email sent to: pippyxxxxxxxx@yahoo.com.au.',

Did you get that email? If that didn’t go to the email address, something else than s2Member is the problem. Have you checked the spam folder to make sure it didn’t end up there?

Hi Cristian,

No – this did not get through even though it shows as sent – ‘Signup Confirmation Email sent to: pippyxxxxxxxx@yahoo.com.au.

It’s not sitting in junk. If you see my original post you will note that I have tried everything!

The following emails ALL get through.
– Free sign up registration emails get delivered
– Emails direct from Paypal after payment details have been entered get delivered & payments take place
– The post registration email gets delivered if I grab the registration URL from the log and get to the registration page manually.

It’s just the Sign up confirmation email that doesn’t.

What else could be wrong?

Thanks,

Nicola

I was just checking to make sure, I know you’ve been trying all you could think of.

The thing is that if the log says it was sent, then s2Member did what it could to send it, using the WP function that sends the emails, and no errors happened. If the email didn’t get sent, though, then there’s something with the server, I guess.

But it’s also likely that it did go and it ended up trapped in a spam filter. One thing I recommend to do in order to avoid this, is writing your own custom Signup Confirmation Email template, unique to your site, so it’s not the same as the one from hundreds of other sites. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Signup Confirmation Email[/hilite]

What else could be wrong?

There may be a plugin messing with the normal behavior, too. Have you tried all suggestions in this article? Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips

See if you can reproduce this problem in a clean WP installation, with default theme and just s2Member added, please.

Hi Cristian,

Success finally. As you suggested, I significantly changed the text in the Sign Up Confirmation email so that it didn’t look like the generic one and the emails came through.

But – then the activation emails from Buddy Press stopped coming through. So, to change the Buddy Press activation email, I have installed a plugin called Welcome Pack which allows you to change the text in the activation email. After I did that, they started to come through as well.

Hopefully it’s all sorted now.

Thanks,

Nicola
