My customer’s payments are not going to my Paypal account. I have talked extensively to PayPal about this issue and they are telling me that I have to disable some feature in S2 member pro so that credit card payments are not processed separately. Right now they are able to complete the registration and purchase process, but the payments do not show up in my PayPal account! PayPal is telling me this is due to the fact the shopping cart is set up so that payments are not processed through Paypal directly as they should be. However, I cannot find where to disable or enable this feature.

Please help…losing sales!

Philip,

What type of PayPal service are you using? PayPal Standard? PayPal Express? PayPal Pro? If you’re accepting credit cards directly on your site, you must have the PayPal Pro service.

A credit card should not go through unless you’ve properly configured s2Member with your PayPal settings. I cannot think of any scenario where someone could submit a payment and have that payment just go into thin air. If the payment isn’t going anywhere, an error will result and the payment will not go through.

In addition to checking what type of PayPal service you’re running, I also recommend enabling logging in s2Member (Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -› Logging). The logs in wp-content/plugins/s2member-logs/ may give some clue as to what’s going on (you’ll need to run a test again and observe the failure so that s2Member can generate logs).

Hello Philip,

Currently s2Member doesn’t have any shopping cart, so if you do have a shopping cart we can’t provide any advice. :/

Also, check this article to see what kind of PayPal account you need to accept credit/debit cards: Knowledge Base » PayPal® Services / A Quick Comparison

Also check this article for common troubleshooting tips, in case it helps: Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips

Hope this helps. :)

Of course I have Paypal Pro….that is the first thing PayPal told me directly.

Payments are not processed but is actually allowing users to log in and access restricted portions and giving them the impression they paid successfully!

I noticed i cannot even generate an updated payment button as it seems frozen.

This does not appear normal

Eduan, What do you mean s2 doesn’t have a shopping cart?

My understanding of this plug in is that it allows me to directly accept credit cards from my website if I have paypal pro, which I do. It has always worked just fine because the few previous sales we received paid by logging in to their paypal accounts. We were unaware of this issue where the payments actually process and allow users to log in to our restricted area, but yet no payment actually shows up on our paypal merchant account! The payment is not actually being processed and paypal is telling me I should be able to simply cause S2 member pro to allow on-site credit card payments and will solve the issue.

Raam…well that is exactly what is happening. It is allowing the customer to purchase and gives them access after they have “paid.” But no payment is transferred over and the customer is not receiving an error message.

According to paypal, I have everything set up properly on the paypal options page with the API information, etc.

Could you please copy/paste here the shortcode for your PayPal Pro-Form?

Also, have you enabled logging in Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -› Logging?

Posted: Tuesday Nov 20th, 2012 at 5:50 pm #32166

Hi Raam. Yes, I just did enable logging in. Here is the button code for the basic level membershp:

[s2Member-Pro-PayPal-Form level="1" ccaps="" desc="Sign-Up For A Basic Membership Now!" ps="paypal" lc="" cc="USD" dg="0" ns="1" custom="internetlegalarmor.com" ta="199.99" tp="1" tt="Y" ra="9.99" rp="1" rt="M" rr="1" rrt="" rra="1" accept="paypal,visa,mastercard,amex,discover,maestro,solo" accept_via_paypal="paypal" coupon="" accept_coupons="0" default_country_code="" captcha="0" /]

I just got off the phone again with PayPal….there appears to be alot of confusion. They are actually telling me that I signed up for a pro account and that is what is shown in their records. However, they just informed me it was not configured properly as for whatever reason it was configured as paypal advance instead, but shows pro!!

So, I guess this is the problem although advance does have the functionality for direct credit card payment on site. I still don’t understand then why it is letting the users log in after “payment” but then not actually charging their card?? Very strange…leads me to believe S2 member pro can process on site with advanced as well as with Pro? Advanced account just came out 4 months ago I guess

If I have to in fact make sure paypal pro is configured and not advanced, then can I still use S2 member pro if I want to get rid of recurring billing? In other words, if I only charge a 1 time membership fee for a fixed duration tha t is not recurring, can I still use S2 member pro?

Hi Eduan. I have tried a lot of things, made sure I had the proper PayPayl set up and still I cannot resolve this.

The problem is that I don’ t have the knowledge base or the time to figure this out. It is been too long and my customer still cannot get payment through…they can only register.

Do you know or recommend a paid service provider you can put me in contact with immediately that can just try to resolve this for me? I no longer have the patience for this and am willing to pay someone to get into my site and figure this out.

I am really out of options here.

Thanks

Hi Phil,

Thank-you very much for your patience

In the short term, I would suggest just creating a standard s2Member PayPal button to handle transactions, and wait to figure out what’s wrong with your account before you go live with PayPal Pro.

It sounds like your PayPal account has been mixed up somehow. Once you have some data in your logs please send us the data within them (with sensitive data xxx’d out) so that we can help you further.

Based on your previous replies PayPal is not receiving data for credit cards, which is causing the issue. We will take a look at the issue and see what might be causing this.

Try running the Server Check Tool and ensure that there’s nothing wrong with your server configuration that might be causing this. Also, do you have any plugins that could be blocking queries? If you could screenshot your plugins list within your WordPress Dashboard that would do fine.

Thank you for your response.

I will check to determine if I have any conflicting Plug ins. I don’t think so at this point.

Ill also try running the server check tool.

Hi Philip,

There was a maintenance release of s2Member last night that has fixed a few kinks that were in the PayPal API handler with s2Member. Please upgrade and see if that fixes your problem.

Thank-you!

Hi. I wanted to respond with the resolution of this issue. It appears we have solved this issue, thankfully!

I am not sure if the S2 member update did the trick or was necessary, but everything seems to be working now and it started working around the same time as the update. But, the problem, I believe, was with PayPal and they apologized to me. Now, maybe the S2 member update was necessary too..not sure. But we believe the core problem was that I was told I had a Pro account set up on my main PayPal account. The account was set up with PayPal advanced. I had 2 Paypal accounts and they were not configured properly. Its a very long and convoluted story, but basically they mistakenly created 2 accounts for me back this summer and PayPal looked at the wrong account the entire time they were trying to figure out my issue! I wasn’t even aware I had 2 Paypal accounts!

When the user is able to log in but no payment is actually processed, it is likely a virtual terminal issue not being set up or not being set up properly with PayPal.

For anyone else with this same issue, I suggest calling PayPal first and determining if you are configured properly. Of course, you must have PayPal Pro to do on-site cc processing and need a virtual terminal.

Thank for all the help.

I also have one more slight issue that just popped up.. we just noticed the members now are not being able to access restricted pages we have locked!

Nothing was changed with our S2 set up so this is pretty strange.

Should I start a new thread for this or can I get a response through this thread?

Thank you.

That’s great! Thanks for the update. :)

PayPal…

I also have one more slight issue that just popped up.. we just noticed the members now are not being able to access restricted pages we have locked!

Could you please double check that the content is actually restricted by s2Member in some way?

Also please make sure that you have a Membership Options page set, or the restrictions won’t be applied. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Membership Options Page[/hilite]

And if you don’t have the Membership Options page set, but did before the update, please make sure that you have the Deactivation Safeguards enabled. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Deactivation Safeguards[/hilite]

Other than that, please try the suggestions in this article: Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips
