Hi,

I have S2member Pro. I am trying to set up my membership site with users who have to pay manually each year, on January 1st. I don’t want their accounts to be automatically debited though. Is it possible to have a subscription user base and only ask them to pay manually?

I don’t mind sending the email out through Mail Chimp. I want S2member to not charge people manually for their subscriptions, and let me send them a link to pay for their renewal. How can I do this?

Thank you!!!!!!!!

Clare

I’m doing something similar because my members had already sent payments before I got s2member All I did was let them pay via paypal direct. And then go in and update their user account with a new end date. In word press, users… look up the member, then change the end date and change the paypal payment info, make some notes. etc. save.

You’ll just have to remember to invoice them or remind them to pay.

Look carefully because I am pretty sure the paypal as a 1 year non recurring option I just can’t remember where I saw it at this moment.

Well, that way we’re really not making use of the link between S2member and PayPal. Then it’s as if there was no connection and everything PayPal would have to be added manually. We cannot do that. That’s why we purchased S2member Pro.

Any other ideas?

Well, hmmm… I guess I didn’t understand your question……

I think there is a way to set up an Annual non-recurring option. I didn’t do it but I noticed it in the drop down of the pro form. I’ve also notice some conditionals that can be used for the confirmation email that had non recurring payment. I’m not sure hot you would go about setting that up

I would start by reading/skimming all the documentation. Watching all the videos…
Good luck

ah ha! Go to paypal pro forms in your s2memberpro. Go to level 1 access.

When you set up your payment amount, click the drop down and scroll WAY DOWN to the “buy now” options. There are several options. Choose “One time (1 year access, non-recurring, no trial)”
Then generate your form code.

Hi,

Well if we do it that way, then how can I get people to renew each year? I still want people to pay each year, but I don’t want to automatically debit their accounts. (ie they need to pay through PayPal out of their own will). Is there a link I can send them to renew at the end of a year?

Thank you,

Clare

WELL, as far as I can tell, s2member can practically bake bread for you if you wanted it too, IF you READ the directions/guides/etc

In the QuickStart guides under

Subscription Cancellations / Expirations / Terminations

You’ll be happy to know that s2Member handles cancellations, expirations, failed payments, terminations (e.g. refunds & chargebacks) for you automatically. If you log into your PayPal account and cancel a Member’s Subscription, or, if the Member logs into their PayPal account and cancels their own Subscription, s2Member will be notified of these important changes and react accordingly through the PayPal IPN service that runs silently behind-the-scene.

The PayPal IPN service will notify s2Member whenever a Member’s payments have been failing, and/or whenever a Member’s Subscription has expired for any reason. Even refunds & chargeback reversals are supported through the IPN service. If you issue a refund to an unhappy Customer through PayPal, s2Member will be notified; and the account for that Customer will either be demoted to a Free Subscriber, or deleted automatically (based on your configuration). The communication from PayPal -› s2Member is seamless.

*Some Hairy Details* There might be times whenever you notice that a Member’s Subscription has been cancelled through PayPal… but, s2Member continues allowing the User access to your site as a paid Member. Please don’t be confused by this… in 99.9% of these cases, the reason for this is legitimate. s2Member will only remove the User’s Membership privileges when an EOT (End Of Term) is processed, a refund occurs, a chargeback occurs, or when a cancellation occurs – which would later result in a delayed Auto-EOT by s2Member.

s2Member will not process an EOT until the User has completely used up the time they paid for. In other words, if a User signs up for a monthly Subscription on Jan 1st, and then cancels their Subscription on Jan 15th; technically, they should still be allowed to access the site for another 15 days, and then on Feb 1st, the time they paid for has completely elapsed. At that time, s2Member will remove their Membership privileges; by either demoting them to a Free Subscriber, or deleting their account from the system (based on your configuration). s2Member also calculates one extra day (24 hours) into its equation, just to make sure access is not removed sooner than a Customer might expect.

Now, you can set the grace period after the end of term (EOT) in seconds. (heh, yeah, I know) SO you would need to go in to Paypal options, Automatic EOT behavior… and look at, change, save… the settings in there. Now remember your protected content is only for those who have a certain level, those that have been demoted to level zero are automatically sent to the Pay Me page. SO…. if they let it expire, they get demoted to zero, and if they try to access your premium area, they are redirected to the pricing/licensing page. Not particularly ideal. But I’m sure if you read further there is a solution such as an email or popup.

I’ll let you look for that solution.

Hi,

Thanks for the response, but that wasn’t what I was looking for. That information could be found in the S2member instructions and details in the back end. The information I want is not listed there anywhere I can find, and that’s why I’m asking here.

I don’t want to have to ask the users to re-register every time they pay, but I don’t want them to have to pay automatically where the money gets taken out of their account every payment term. I just want the users to log in and pay every year to keep their user name active.

Does anyone know if this is possible?

Thank you,

Clare

This is also something I would like to know.

I want users to be sent an email when the year has almost ended, reminding them to log into the website and renew for the next year.

I don’t want the payment to be taken automatically.

The website is for a physical sports club so cannot rely on the member seeing a ‘renew now’ message on the website.

Hello.

I used the new support system to get an answer, as these forums are no longer maintained.

The answer I got was:

You’d sell buy-now instead of a subscription. That’ll set an end date for the access in his account. He won’t be charged automatically, he’ll have to purchase the new year himself.

There aren’t notifications for coming expirations, though. There was a hack someone posted a while back to do that, you could try it or modify it to suit your needs: http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/setting-up-eot-notifications/

The link looks to do what I need, although I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

Thanks Chris!

It was very nice of you to post the response here. I thought it might be something like that.
