Sorry, if I wasn’t clear. This works.
When I wrote “Nothing, obviously in the other pages.” I just meant that I don’t put any code in the French / Chinese pages. The only thing is that I must do this manually on each post and if I decide to deactivate the plugin I’ll be left with all these codes?

OK I have worked an approach which is a little cumbersome and if you can suggest another way which is more effecient I would certainly appreciate it.

I use your shortcode conditionals in the English version of the post:
[s2If !current_user_can(access_s2member_level0)]
You need to be a subscriber to view this content – please visit the subscribe (link here) page.
[/s2If]
[s2If current_user_can(access_s2member_level1)]
Premium content here
[/s2If]
Nothing, obviously in the other pages. But this is all manual and rather a pain… !

Mny thx.

Still… it works! That’s something.

hi – thanks but none of this works. Your developer probably knows why and could you ask him if I find someone to write some script I can resolve this – perhaps he could indicate which file and approx where in the file I might find the passages where this doesn’t really work with translated tags etc. Otherwise, any other ideas?

Thanks yes working onthe rest of it but frankly I’ve got 7secs of S2 member loading in 2 different places… by far the largest component and would shave 75% of the site’s load time. I’ve implemented one part of the mu css load so will let you know if this works. I do think this needs some attention? Still… a great plugin!

Yes, I appreciate this response but it doesn’t exactly reflect my experience. For whatever reason, maybe there are lots, I lost my category protections…

I have had the safeguards enabled since first installing the plugin.

Wordpress 3.3.2

By updating the framework I initially lost all the additional levels. I then upgraded the module and regained all the levels. But all the levels kicked in the names of the levels was lost and the category protection I had set up was also lost. I wonder if this is because although I had 10 levels I was effectively only using 6 of them?

This is what PayPal (finally) told me which makes sense and perhaps has been addressed in your last upgrade?

Also, all that option (WPS Premium) does is unlock the credit card option for standard subscription buttons which is what you are using on the /subscribe/ page. If you signed up for that service, you wouldn’t have to make any changes to your buttons and they will then have the option for the customer to sign up with a debit/credit card instead of a PayPal account. The difference between that and Pro is that you are still using our standard buttons with our checkout pages so you don’t have to be PCI compliant. Pro has you gather the information on your website directly without directing them to a PayPal checkout page so you need to have a secure site and go through PCI Compliance to be able to accept credit cards directly.

To answer your second question, yes, if you were to use Buy Now buttons or Add to Cart buttons instead of Subscription buttons, they would have the option of guest credit card checkout without PayPal will work just fine. It’s just that Subscription buttons are PayPal only by default. Also, Express Checkout (that you use on your /buy-this-issue/ page) is always going to be PayPal only when you use it with recurring payments. Just one-time payments with Express Checkout can be set up to accept a credit card without a PayPal account, but not with recurring payments.

Clear?

OK so it was a stupid error on my part – I was taking the module for PayPalPro without really considering that we needed to be subscribed to this service – is there not some way you can invalidate the shortcode if the parameters haven’t been completed – many other types of service do this e.g ZenCart? In part because normally Express Checkout permits cc purchases just not on site. Thanks.

Don’t think that is the problem – maybe this happened after I upgraded your software – I seem to recall there was something about PayPal Pro when I did this. Somehow, S2 is sending the message that I have PayPal Pro… that is the issue – not the kind of card they are using. e.g. they wrote:

“…your Website is using our Express Checkout API.The Direct Payment API is specially designed to process Credit cards directly on your site without redirecting the customer to paypal. This API is part of our Payments Pro package which is currently not enabled on your account.”

To enable Pro you have to pay for it. These is something S2 is sending to PayPal which says I am using Pro – which I don’t want to do. Please take another look… many thanks.

Yeah I rather agree but it’s easier than setting up two sites… anyway worked it out I think but not yet implemented. The way to go is to use Custom Capabilities but not so much for the translations but the main English part of the site. That way all translated material is free and all English material requires payment…

This won’t work because I’m using the qTranslate plugin. For any given post I will have at least two versions – English and French. I don’t as far as I’m aware have the facility within S2 to do anything other than allocate a post (and its translated versions) to one level. With custom capabilities at least (but not for free payments) I have the possibility of allocating any part of any post to a specific level. What do you think?

[s2Member-Pro-PayPal-Form level="2" ccaps="" desc="$5.99 USD / Yearly ( recurring charge, for ongoing access )" ps="paypal" lc="" cc="USD" dg="0" ns="1" custom="mysite.com" ta="0" tp="0" tt="D" ra="5.99" rp="1" rt="Y" rr="1" rrt="" rra="2" accept="paypal,visa,mastercard,amex,discover,maestro,solo" accept_via_paypal="paypal" coupon="" accept_coupons="0" default_country_code="" captcha="0" /]

Looking at this I can see that the ‘accept’ includes cards I wouldn’t normally allow but not sure that’s anything to do with it.

OK, so that looks good and I ‘think’ I can handle a post that way EXCEPT what I want to do is make, say, all posts in the French language FREE for viewers. However, isn’t this custom capability linked to payments? I suppose I can apply this to the bottom level but then it becomes complicated because on the Levels I have set up Level 0 only applies to a minimum viewing ability. If I want a person from France, say, to have Level 3 capabilities but without paying anything, will this work or are we back in the voucher domain once again? Thx for all your help.

Contacted PayPal and finally – after 3-4 tries got this out of them:

You are receiving that error because in that cases your Website is using the Direct Payment API. In other, successful transactions, your Websitre is using our Express Checkout API.The Direct Payment API is specially designed to process Credit cards directly on your site without redirecting the customer to paypal. This API is part of our Payments Pro package which is currently not enabled on your account. You will need to sign up for this add on product first, before you can use this API. You can do that here:

https://www.paypal-business.co.uk/process-online-payments-with-paypal/index.htm

Once you signed up and you are approved for Pro, your Direct PAyment API will work. If you don’t want Pro, you will need to disablke that API in your shop and only use the Express Checkout API.

This must be something s2 Member is doing? I can’t find any way to turn this off.

I uploaded the script as is and pointed my brower at it and received the message ‘Do NOT access this file directly.’ I then renamed it /check-my-server.php and got a 404…?

Thanks – looking at first part for the time being and yes it’s method=”get”.

All works perfectly. This is very useful so many thanks for your input. It’s complicated keeping track of the pages though esp. if one has more than one coupon! One could write a plugin just for that.

I didn’t use the code thingy…

<form id="voucherForm" action="http://mysite/subscribe_voucher/?voucher=" method="post"><input type="text" name="voucher" value="" maxlength="15" /> <input id="saveForm" type="submit" name="submit" value="submit" /> <input type="reset" value="Reset" /></form>

This isn’t transferring the code to the url – I can cheat my hard-coding it e.g.

<form id="voucherForm" action="http://magazine.finewinepress.com/subscribe_voucher/?voucher=free" method="post"><input type="text" name="voucher" value="" maxlength="15" /> <input id="saveForm" type="submit" name="submit" value="submit" /> <input type="reset" value="Reset" /></form>

but effectively anyone can type anything…

Thanks for your considered reply.

I did watch the video and I did follow the instructions. I uploaded an xml into the s2member-files directory but I couldn’t open it. It gave me the option to key in the username and password (good) but when I did it just repeated the option e.g. it didn’t log one through so I never even got to try the automatic method eg usrname:psswd@mysite.com/s2member-files/file.xml. Something was blocking the log-in – I tried using different users which had rights of access.

I’m not really sure one gains very much over just doing it manually as I’ve described since setting up the directory doesn’t take much work. The unfortunate thing with both systems is that one has to recreate the xml file every time and it is not created dynamically. I had hoped that I would dupe all the posts I wanted for the Kindle using a different membership level and access would be made available on the fly but that doesn’t work either. So, once one is stuck with recreating a feed it doesn’t make much difference whether one uses the S2 system or a specially created directory. The latter has one major advantage – one doesn’t have to spend time trying to make it work – it does! Thanks again.

To give an indication that something within S2 may not be working quite right I have managed to set this up manually. eg created a directory for an xml. Added an htaccess/passwd protection. Uplaod an xml. Accessed file remotely using username/pswd@url. All works fine.
