s2Member does what it can to prevent caching of restricted pages. Object and database caching are known to cause trouble and you should disable those in your caching plugin to avoid trouble. Sometimes caching still happens despite the settings and s2Member’s efforts, but I’ve only seen that happen rarely and it’d be due to reasons specific to the installation.

In the upper left of the screen I have the WhyDoIDate term. Before all this started I could toggle to WordPress to make alternations but now the second option is not there. Now it takes me to the home page.

Rick, could you explain what you mean by this? A screenshot would also help.

They tell me that S2 has changed the user profile in the data base and moved line 0 so now to find and decipher the permissions will be very difficult to do.

s2Member doesn’t change the users, especially the admin. s2Member, when changing the user level or custom capabilities, does change the WP role and capabilities for users other than the admin. s2Member doesn’t edit the rows in the “users” database table.

Okay.

Could you check with PayPal what kind of PayPal Pro you have? Is it the PayFlow Edition? If so, you need to enter the PayFlow API credentials into s2Member too, but if you don’t have the PayFlow Edition then those credentials should be left empty. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› PayFlow[/hilite]

And what do your logs says about those failed cancellations? Could you paste those entries here, x’ing out any private info? [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -› Logging[/hilite]

After a few attempts I was able to load memberpurchase-basicmember, but not the other two. In that one I saw the field you mention, and you do seem to have a JS problem there, since the password strength indicator is not working.

You mention having deactivated the theme and other plugins, but did you activate them again before deactivating the next thing? If you had more than one causing the problem, then the problem would not go away.

Could you test changing the theme to TwentyEleven and deactivating all other themes? If the problem goes away, then bring them back one by one, checking after each if the issue returns.

Also, I am right now offering all three methods of payment, Authorize, Google and PayPal, but all on the same page — as in the example from the link below. Let me know if there is a mistake there. Also, you can check the PayPal button there, it includes both shortcode attributes mentioned above.
https://www.gurufundpicks.com/memberpurchase-basicmember

I couldn’t load the page you linked to… Could you post here the shortcodes you’re using in it?

However, I tried both, separately and together, and all three ways tried still allow payment via CC using paypal.

Both attributes should be used. You’d just give PayPal as the option for payment in the pro-form, which means the person would checkout through Express Checkout, but it doens’t limit what the person can pay with over there. The attributes determine the payment methods in the pro-form, not in Express Checkout. Once in checkout he’d be able to pay with funds from his PayPal account or, if it’s a Buy Now transaction, with a card.

Is the other installation the same version of s2Member?

Thanks for the update, Pat, I’m glad you got it under control. For future reference, could you explain what was causing your problem and what your solution was? Thanks!

Excellent! Thanks for the udpate. :)

Billy, s2Member doesn’t have a cart, or a widget for it. Maybe you’re confusing s2Member with a shopping cart you also have installed in your site?

JD, you’d need to ask this to the support guys of the forum script you’re using.

If it’s a WP plugin, then it’d use the WP display name most probably, but if it’s a separate script, it’d need to be integrated with WP in some way.

JD, I see you have two pro-forms in the same page. This would cause them to fail, only one pro-form can be used in a page.

Remove one and let me know if the fixed your problem. If not, could you explain in more detail what the problem is? Thanks!

Tony, since you upgraded from PayPal Standard to PayPal Pro, you may want to check if the credentials changed.

I’ve seen site owners upgrading and after asking PayPal about it, it turned out that they actually got a second PayPal account, instead of the same one being upgraded.

Could you verify with PayPal if you still have the same PayPal account and credentials?

Desmond, the button’s link includes the [hilite mono]s2_referencing[/hilite] variable, with the user ID 1, so it’s referencing the admin account. You seem to have just copied the link you got when you loaded the page with the shortcode while logged in to your admin account.

You have to use the shortcode to avoid this problem, and the test while logged out of your admin account.

Incognito may not be good, since it would prevent cookies, which are needed after the user is returned, so s2Member can cookie him for the registration, without the cookie he’d need the registration link in the s2Member Signup Confirmation email. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› ClickBank® Options -› Signup Confirmation Email[/hilite]

I hope that helps. :)

What do the log entries from the other files (including the ones with “paypal” in the names) say for that transaction with the problem?

Do you have the latest version of s2Member installed?

Posted: Monday Dec 10th, 2012 at 7:28 am #34123

You’re missing the [hilite mono]accept_via_paypal="paypal"[/hilite] attribute.

With Google Checkout, one has to use the credit/debit cards. However, is it common to offer it (or for that matter all three)?

Not common from what I’ve seen site owners mention, but still possible. The problem would be that you can’t mix thm in a single pro-form, and you can only have a single pro-form in a page, so for the extra payment gateways you’d have links that take the person t othe other page with that gateaway.

No, s2Member doesnt’ manage access to the back end, only the front end. For dashboard access edits, you’ll need hack, not sure what, though. I know that some WP capabilities change the dashboard access, but I think there are also ways to show/hide item menues, etc, to customize the dashboard access.

That’s odd. Do you have that column enabled? [hilite path]WP Admin -> Users -> Screen Options[/hilite]

how could you tell the s2-ssl=yes option wasn’t turned on?

When it’s active, [hilite mono]?s2-ssl=yes[/hilite] gets added at the end of the URL of the page in the address bar, like this: https://cherrybombwrestling.com/christie-diane-von-hoffman-video-purchase/?s2-ssl=yes

Edit the page and add the custom field to activate it. Here’s a screenshot:

Ah ok, I mentioned the version because the log entries you posted above mentioned an older one (v120703)

Yeah, if you’re giving a free term first before starting the regular payments, that’s a trial. Trials don’t cause a cancellation though, it’s the failed payment what may cause PayPal to immediately contact s2Member again.

The problem here is that PayPal tells s2Member right away to give the user access, but before securing the payment, and then after failure, telling s2Member right away that the subscription actually didn’t happen. I’m not sure how it works with a trial, though, it’s possible that PayPal still tries to get the card authorized for the payments, without actually charging it.

Are you having this problem with every single test? Are you trying different cards to pay with?

We have good news. The following short code solved our problem.

That’s great. Thanks for the update. :)

We are still having a problem with the (password strength indicator) on the form page

Did you test changing for a moment to the default TwentyEleven theme and reloading the page with the pro-form to see if the password strength indicator then worked? This test would help identify if the problem is being caused by a conflict introduced by the theme.

If that’s not it, you can test the plugins too. Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips
