I found my answer:

This setting is ignored when/if you offer a Free Trial Period. This setting only affects PayPal® Pro Forms that use a `Subscription` configuration with an immediate charge. In other words, if your PayPal® Pro Form is configured to bill on a recurring basis ( starting the day of signup ), this setting controls the way in which s2Member handles the first payment of the Customer’s Paid Subscription ( aka: Recurring Profile ).

We recommend: `Consolidate w/ Recurring Profile`, because this keeps all charges associated with a particular Customer organized in your PayPal® account. No matter which option you choose, a first Initial Payment ( when applicable ), will always be charged immediately. However, in cases where it is critical that a Customer NOT gain access until their first payment has been fully captured, choose: `Real-Time / Direct Pay`, which tells s2Member to authorize/capture the first payment in real-time during checkout, instead of consolidating it into the Recurring Profile.

Here Is A Breakdown For You

— Consolidate w/ Recurring Profile —
s2Member creates a Recurring Profile with an Initial Payment amount, to be charged immediately. PayPal® generates the Recurring Profile, returns a successful response to s2Member and the Customer gains access. Moments later ( usually within 30 seconds ), PayPal® will authorize/capture the first payment. If the first payment is declined, s2Member will revoke the Customer’s access immediately.

— Real-Time / Direct Pay ( mission critical ) —
s2Member charges the first payment separately ( in real-time during checkout ), leaving no possibility for the Customer to gain access until the first charge is fully captured. A Recurring Profile is also generated, which handles any future billing. You will have two billing records in your PayPal® account. One for the Initial Payment, and another for the Recurring Profile.

yeah I have seen those … thanks for your help … It seems like something that might need a hack or something.

On the same note, might be good to add to the next update :)

Basically when a member wants to cancel they go in and click on the cancel button that I created so yes I’m using the pro-forms with the cancel button.

Then I go log in to PayPal and noticed that their status has been changed from active to suspend. I’m assuming that it should be moved to cancel?

Then inside of S2 member they haven’t been demoted. they’re still at level one and haven’t been moved down to subscriber.

I have let the accounts sit for 30 days which is the length of my membership and they still haven’t been demoted or moved out of suspend.

Does that help?

Thank you for the reply in getting back to me.

I am running pro-forms on my system. I need members to be able to cancel their account on my website and it accurately show on PayPal as well as demote their membership to a subscription.

Right now when you cancel their account through their membership profile on my website when the con job runs it changes their status on PayPal to suspended and not canceled.

Is that because they still have time on their subscription?

Or is there another setting or something that I don’t have set up correctly?
