The URI restriction will work with URLs served by WordPress. If you link directly to a file, even if it’s in a WP directory, the URI restriction won’t apply.

If the image in NextGEN Gallery is not served through WP, then the URI restriction won’t work on it. What you could do, though, if the NextGEN Gallery pages are served by WP, is to restrict access to the gallery itself.

Is there a way to change the location of the protected s2member protected directory to be someplace else (not plugins/s2member location)? And a way to restrict access to files by member level instead of a single catch-all directory?

Hi Kerry. No, you don’t have to pay for it again. It’s likely that the s2Member Pro update didn’t succeed, but the framework did. If their versions don’t match, then the Pro add-on won’t be enabled.

Just connect to your FTP and make sure you have the s2member-pro directory properly uploaded to your /wp-content/plugins/ directory. See: s2Member® » Pro » Install/Upgrade Instructions

If the automatic one fails, for whatever reason, you can always do it via FTP. See: s2Member® » Pro » Install/Upgrade Instructions

I hope that helps. :)

No problem. :)

You’re welcome. :)

If you need help, you can find freelancers in sites like jobs.wordpress.net, odesk.com or elance.com.

The error is talking about a nonexistant function called “phpdefine”, it looks like you were missing the line break between the [hilite mono]php[/hilite] and [hilite mono]define[/hilite].

Please review your wp-config.php file and make sure it doesn’t have any errors. Use a text editor like Notepad, not a word processor like Word.

It’s possible that the update of s2Member Pro was not successful and thus it’s not enabled. Could you please follow these instructions to do it via FTP? s2Member® » Pro » Install/Upgrade Instructions

After you get the Pro features showing up again, you may also want to try the server scanner, to verify that the s2Member directories and files are all correct. Knowledge Base » s2Member® Server Scanner

Well, it is best to run the latest release, so you rule out any known issues that were resolved in those releases.

About the emails not sending, got it, then that problem was unrelated to tracking.

Since you mention having problems with the new user email too, I’d try these:
Knowledge Base » Troubleshooting Email Delivery Problems

And if those aren’t enough, I’d try all these:
Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips

And if even then you still have the problem, please submit the site’s info so I can take a look. Please leave me a note here after you do, so I look for it. Thanks! s2Member® » Private Contact Form

Ah, please have logging enabled, so we get more information from test transactions. The transactions can be for 1 cent during testing. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Log Files (Debug) -› Logging Configuration[/hilite]

If you’re using a caching plugin, make sure it doesn’t have those enabled. You may also want to check with your webhost in case they have them (some do, from what I’ve seen).

That’s a big jump in versions. There may be trouble, but I’m not certain, since I’ve never tried it.

What I’d do if it were my site:

– Make sure you have s2Member’s Deactivation Safeguards enabled. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Deactivation Safeguards[/hilite]
– Back everything up (e.g. files, database)
– Clone the site to work on a copy that’s not live.
– Try the update in the dev copy.
– If you have trouble, then try doing the updates little by little. Keep notes of the steps you take. Here you can find previous releases: http://wordpress.org/plugins/s2member/developers/
– Once you succeed updating to the latest version, either make that installation the live site, or reproduce the steps you followed.

I hope that helps. :)

Ah, glad you sorted it out. Thanks for the update. :)

No, the free version doesn’t have this. The Pro version adds a free registration pro-form you can use in any WP page or post, though. Video » s2Member (Free Registration On Multiple Levels?)

Chris, you can have s2 profile fields that show up during registration only and not the profile page. In the settings for the field, you’ll see one labelled “Allow Profile Edits”.

About adding your own fields to the pro-form, see: http://www.s2member.com/kb/pro-forms/#custom-data-w-pro-forms

About server-side validation of custom fields: http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/registering-without-required-fields/#post-10707

I’m not sure I understand your question. Could you please explain some more what you’re trying to do exactly?

That said, it sounds like something you’ll be doing with a little customization, using some conditionals. See: Video » s2Member (Advanced Conditionals)

If you got a warning/error in the server scanner, it’s best to fix it, since it could be related to your current problem, or cause you another one you’re not aware of yet.

Did you try the other tests in the article? Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips

Also check that you don’t have database or object caching enabled, please. They’re known to cause random problems.

Thanks for the update! I’m glad it got sorted out.

And thanks for the kudos. :)

This is not a feature in s2Member, but you could probably create a customization to do it.

You’d need a custom script with a cron job that runs it every day, and checks the last time the user logged in. I’m pretty sure that time is somewhere in the database, but if not, you could make your customization log that too.

Great! Thanks for the update. :)

When a post is restricted with s2Member, and the user doesn’t have enough access for it, then he’d be redirected to the Membership Options Page, which is not what’s happening here.

Could you please try resaving your permalink setting? [hilite path]WP Admin -> Settings -> Permalinks[/hilite]

If that doesn’t do it, then try these: Knowledge Base » Common Troubleshooting Tips

Thanks!

I have read the post http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/removing-the-password-strength-meter-min-js/ and tried to adopt the solution(s) there but to no avail.

You could ask that user about the customization he wrote for this, and see if he’s had to update it to work with the new WP 3.5.2 release.

I have a core js script that I cannot see loading and various tools give me not_found?ver=3.5.2

http://fernleafconsulting.co.uk/FLWP/wp-admin/js/password-strength-meter.min.js is returning a 404. This is a WP file, not s2Member. Check that you have it. If it’s missing, then the update may have missed it for some reason, you’ll need to upload it, but also make sure no other file is missing.

I hope that helps. :)

This is a question for BuddyPress, I’m sure they’ll be able to tell you how to customize that in your community, so that the username changes color depending on the WP role. http://buddypress.org :)
