More thoughts on this: perhaps I can use the authorize.net free registration form, assign the invoice customers to level 2?

(In a perfect world, I would require a coupon code to be able to submit/complete the form…)

Doug,

I’m just another user, not support staff. But if you look under API / Scripting in your wordpress admin under S2Member, there’s a bunch of PHP code examples in there for restricting pieces directly.

You could use these in templates in your theme. Presuming you want to do that in your news articles, you probably want to do it in single.php if your theme is structured normally.

for example, something like:

<?php if(is_user_logged_in()){ ?>
	<?php the_content(); ?>
<?php } else { ?>
	<?php the_content('Log in to read more...'); ?>
<?php } ?>

See this for more:

This is great, thanks. Looks to me like you have 80% of your “part 2” blog post following up on the last one… ;-)

If you do do that, would also love to know what would be different if NOT using the SEO Links module.

No joy. Here’s their response:

“No I’m sorry there is no way to display the affiliate information in your wordpress page. When the account is created, the new affiliate gets an email with the login to their account where they can see all the information about their account.

Sincerely,
Jim Webster
iDevAffiliate Technical Support”

But couldn’t we do something to look in that idevaffiliate database, match on email address, and pull the affiliate id out of there?

No, that’s not exactly what I mean :-)

What I’m referring to is the MAILCHIMP program for allowing shopping cart applications (and other membership management plugins) to track the event of an e-commerce transaction happening as a counted, analytics level event in their reporting.

Might be easier with an example — I use S2 to manage my site. I collect email addresses on that site. Then I use MailChimp (nicely integrated already with S2) to send a pitch to those prospect emails asking them to subscribe/buy/give me money.

With several other platforms, if the user clicks on that mailchimp-sent email pitch and buys the product, that is a trackable outcome **in mailchimp’s reports**. That’s the change request…

Does that help?

OK, I found that coding under the conditionals section that explains things. I think I understand it now it just took reading it like 10 times to get it.

Is there a way to do it without shortcodes, using categories or tag protection instead?

I’ve used firebug for probably 5 years. But a graphical map is still helpful.

yes, that ended up being it. for the benefit of anyone finding this later, it seems that the addition of an index sped it up from minutes to seconds, which is probably good enough. fyi, the sql to run is:

create index user_key on wp_usermeta(user_id, meta_key);

as an alternate, i was always able to just make the “trial period” be $0.01 different price than the regular period, then I could use a coupon code that was a 100% discount.

ok i was able to get the URL version, but when I do, it says “You have requested an outdated version of PayPal. This error often results from the use of bookmarks.” on the PayPal checkout page.

Just brainstorming here…maybe you drop a unique cookie on user when they do a trial or when subscriber level changes, and detect that before allowing subsequent trials.

I dunno, I just think this is a key thing that it’d be fantastic to figure out.

The usual way that trials would be restricted would be to do so via unique credit cards, ideally, then maybe phone numbers and zip codes match. I don’t know if there’s a way to work this in for future release, but it’d be good to have it be more defined.
