Hi Chris.

– S2member Pro will take care of securing the transaction between my user database and Clickbank, with no way to circumvent the checkout and still somehow receive the custom capability

– A logged in user can press a button, be taken to Clickbank, when they checkout their user account will be modified to include a custom capability

Right.

– A non logged in user can be prompted to enter their user details and press a button, which (in one press) will log them in and take them to Clickbank and upon checking out their account will be modified to include a custom capability

Not exactly, because the login and checkout aren’t combined into one. You can have the ClickBank button generated with s2Member’s shortcode in the Login Welcome page, where the person will be taken to right after logging in. Then he’d have to click the ClickBank button start the checkout process.

You could try to customize this with a hack, so that a person logging in, if he doesn’t have the custom capability you’re selling, will be redirected to ClickBank.

– An unregistered user can be prompted to enter their signup details and press a button, which will take them to Clickbank and upon checking out they will become registered and have a custom capability – not needing to activate their account until after payment is confirmed

Again, this is not the default behavior. When a user registers, he then has to login manually, and he won’t be forwarded to ClickBank automatically. And, again, you could hack a customization to do it the way you want.

There’s a hack you can try for auto-login after registration, and if you already hacked the ClickBank redirection when ccap is missing on login, I think you’d have what you want.

I hope that helps. :)

I did try every download link, Benny. I had used the admin account for the first tests, so I went and created a Level 3 account now and tried every single download link in the Members area, with Firefox and Internet Explorer. I didn’t get a single error, all the downloads started properly. It seems to be working without a problem, I can’t reproduce it yet. :/

Ben, I got your CB info and looked into your settings. I found that you didn’t configure the IPN URL. Set it up and test a purchase again.

[hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› ClickBank® Options -› IPN Integration[/hilite]
[hilite path]ClickBank Admin -> My Site -> Advanced Tools -> Instant Notification URL[/hilite]

I hope that solves the problem. :)

Thanks for the update, Mike. I’m glad you solved it. :)

Hi Will.

Sure. You’d need PayPal working if you were testing the checkout, but to check content restriction, just assign the access manually to the user from his profile and protect the content with the restriction you want to use. It should be fine.

Use a test account, because as an admin you will have access to everything. It helps to have two browsers open, one where you are the admin and another as the test user, that way you don’t need to log out and back in all the time.

I hope that helps. :)

Hi Mouty.

It’s not been taken off the to-do list, but it’s been low in priority. We’re not rewriting s2Member and the gateways integration is being vastly improved, so the new API for it will permit us to integrate new gateways much faster.

Maybe you can sell with Google Checkout? Or how about ClickBank, they will email you a check if you can’t do bank transfers.

I hope that helps.

I’ll email Jason asking him about it.

Hi Dave.

You did configure all the PayPal options, not just the PayFlow ones, right? [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -> Account Details[/hilite]

I searched for the error, but didn’t find it. I don’t know if they haven’t documented the new PayFlow errors yet…

Have you contacted PayPal asking them about it?

Hi Andrea.

Normally that would be done on registration, so the custom profile fields are a good solution. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Registration/Profile Fields[/hilite]

If you need to do your custom thing on first login, you could use the Login Offers and use that to redirect the person to the T&C page on first login: [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› One-Time Offers (Upon Login)[/hilite]

Does that help?

Using PayPal, how can I set the Max Failed Payments variable (i.e. the number of times PayPal will try to charge someone before giving up)?

To manage the existing subscriptions you’ll have to do it from PayPal, but for new ones, you can set that in s2Member’s shortcode using the rra attribute. There are different limitations depending on the PayPal service you’re using, so it works a bit differently in buttons and pro-forms:

[hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Buttons -› Shortcode Attributes -> rra[/hilite]

rra=”1″ Reattempt failed payments? Possible values: 0 = do NOT reattempt billing when/if a recurring payment fails; 1 = yes, DO reattempt billing when/if a recurring payment fails. With PayPal® Standard integration, PayPal® will retry a maximum of 2 times when you set rra=”1″; after that, a Subscription would be terminated due to Max Failed Payments having been reached. PayPal® Standard integration does NOT make it possible to configure Max Failed Payments, it simply defaults to a value of 2 whenever rra=”1″, indicating that you DO want to retry failed payments.

[hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro-Forms -› Shortcode Attributes -> rra[/hilite]

rra=”2″ Reattempt failed payments? Possible values: 0 = do NOT reattempt billing when/if a recurring payment fails; 1 or higher = yes, DO reattempt billing when/if a recurring payment fails. With PayPal® Pro integration, PayPal® will retry a maximum of 2 times whenever rra=”2″; after that, a Subscription would be terminated due to Max Failed Payments having been reached. With PayPal® Pro integration, the value of this attribute also configures Max Failed Payments. So a setting of rra=”2″ means that you allow a maximum of 2 failed payments.

I hope that helps.

Hmm… Not sure.

Try to get him to send you the URL he gets when redirected to the Membership Options page, it’ll have several variables that may help see what’s happening. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› API / Scripting -› Membership Options Page Variables (MOP Vars)[/hilite]

I see.

Well, the nrfight.com seems to be in the description. You could, to test this, change the custom value in the user’s profile to match the nrfight.com you see in PayPal and test if that fixes it.

Thanks a lot for taking a look, I really appreciate you taking the time to help me out!

No problem. I’m sorry I haven’t found the problem yet. :/

Some users don’t have payment information because they’re using the site for free.

I saw users without subscr id or gateway, but I meant one that had subscr id without the gateway.

It won’t be next year. Can’t give you a date, but maybe around 2 months. We hope to start beta testing in some weeks. This is just an estimate, it may be a bit longer, but hopefully not.

You can export your s2Member options in the site you had working and then, after you migrate the site, reimport the options. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Import/Export -› s2Member® Options[/hilite]

Also make sure that any mention of the previous domain name in the database is updated to the new one.

I hope that helps. :)

Hi Kris.

You’d use the success attribute to specify the URL the user should be taken to after checkout. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms -› Shortcode Attributes -> success[/hilite]

I hope it helps. :)

Hi Kris.

Did you make sure you were logged in to your account in WordPress when you tried that? Do you have that access level?

Make sure that you’re not using URLs with a mix of www and without. Knowledge Base » Don't mix www and without

Sorry to only be responding to my self over and over, but in case I figure it out wanted to be able to have my process :)

No problem at all, I do that sometimes too. :)

Perhaps the s2member Support folks could point us in the right direction?

I really don’t know this one. I’m waiting for Jason to check his inbox and get to this email. He’s doing that once or twice a week now, since he’s so busy developing the new s2Member. Thanks for your patience.

Posted: Tuesday Jun 5th, 2012 at 6:20 am #15454

I’m sorry, it does seem to be on PayPal’s end. You should contact them. If it was just one transaction, then it’s probably a problem with that particular card or something. Are you getting other payments to go through successfully?

If you have enabled logging in s2Member, we can look at the log entries for the transaction. [hilite path]Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -› Logging[/hilite]

Hi Kevin.

Jason posted about this recently: http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/configuring-custom-roles/#post-13817

I hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the great feedback, Carla. :)

Jason will see your comments as soon as he gets to the email I sent him. He’s checking his inbox once or twice a week lately, since he’s really busy developing the new s2Member. Thanks for your patience.

That’s great to know, Rick!

No, we don’t have a showcase yet… Maybe we should start building one.

The problem is that what s2Member is actually behind the scenes, it’s not something that’s displayed, except for the button/pro-form, so it’s hard to show it.

What would you like to see from those sites? Maybe I can dig up some examples. :)

Posted: Tuesday Jun 5th, 2012 at 6:08 am #15450

Hi Paul.

From what Jason replied there, what I understand is that the first download determines when the time starts being counted. If you allow the downloads every 7 days, and the first download happened on a Tuesday, then it’ll be reset every Tuesday (every 7 days). It won’t take the next download time and add 7 days to that.

I will email Jason asking him to confirm this.

That’s great to know. Thanks for the update. :)
