Good Quentin. Just be sure to remember to get the plugin titled “s2Member Video Shortcodes.” That’s the one I am using…there may be an update for it, I just don’t know. Just download and activate the plugin and you can use those short codes. You might want to search for Phillys instructions on how to use it. Here’s a link to one of the old threads

https://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/s2member-video-shortcodes/

Anyone out there use voicethread with S2?

Hi Quentin – I use amazon s3 and also use the JW Pro Player. Actually one of the reasons I came back here to check in was to see if a poster named Philly was around. I wated to thank him for the huge amount of help he gave many of us a while back. You might want to search the forum for Philly video or something like that and find those threads. He wrote short codes for putting video up and it is very, very simple. Here is an example of what a page looks like:

[s2playlist size=”1″ width=”640″ height=”360″ playlistsize=”01″ playlistthumbs=”false” playlistposition=”right” video1=”1ritual623.mp4″ html5=”true” download=”true” image1=”http://mysite.com/wp-content/uploads/more/gcr.jpg” title1=”Actions – Introduction” desc1=”. (Click description to play) 2:51“]

Philly! If you are out there, MANY THANKS!

Let me know if you have questions Quentin.

Hi Quentin – I am more a novice at this but have gotten video to play on S2 and Amazon S3. One of the things that stumped me in the beginning was that I needed to make each file “public” before it would play. I notice you said that you had “remove the public license” and I am not sure just what that means but if I were you I would go to the amazon account and be sure that the vids have been made public. You can click on the “Action” tab and one of the options is to make public. I hope that is of some help to you but if I am completely off base perhaps it will stimulate someone much more knowledgable than myself to come in and give you a hand.

Good luck

Tom

Thanks Jason! When I pasted in your shortcode and entered the png file it works just fine! Many thanks.

Thanks Jason. I used both the url and the relative path and neither seems to be working. In fact, if I paste in the short code the vid doesn’t come up at all. Here is what I paste into the post. Maybe you can see my error. I removed the actual player key and the actual url’s.

[s2Stream player="jwplayer-v6" player_path="/jwplayer6/jwplayer.js" player_key="playerkey" file_download="video.mp4" player_width="640" player_height="360" player_image="http://echosite.com/wp-content/uploads/test.png" player_option_blocks=”sharing:{}, logo: {file: ‘/jwplayer6/test2.png’, link: ‘http://example.com’}” rewrite="yes" /]

When I try it without the sharing and link the video comes up, the image cover image is there but still no watermark.

[s2Stream player="jwplayer-v6" player_path="/jwplayer6/jwplayer.js" player_key="playerkey" file_download="video.mp4" player_width="640" player_height="360" player_image="http://echosite.com/wp-content/uploads/test.png" player_option_blocks=” logo: {file: ‘/jwplayer6/test2.png’}” rewrite="yes" /]

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

One of the mistakes I made when I first started up the S3/Cloud for videos was to not make the files “public.” I was unaware at the time that not only did I need to place the files in the bucket but after putting them there I needed to make each file “public” via the “action” drop down at the top of the page. (highlight file, click action drop down for public)

You have probably done this already but I thought I would mention it just in case.

Yes, thank you Christian – I had used:

player_option_blocks=”sharing:{}, logo: {file: ‘/echomangologo.png’, link: ‘http://example.com’}”

but was not successful. I am assuming I place this shortcode along with the other shortcode that calls the video. Correct? I wonder if I am getting the path of the image incorrect. I placed the image in the jwplayer base directory and used the shortcode above but no watermark. Any suggestions?

Hi Ross – When I add the download=”true” the file can be played by anyone as long as S2 is not restricting access. When I remove the access restriction the file can be seen be anyone whether download=”true” is in there or not. But if S2 is restricting access I can’t even get to the file when I am logged out in order to see if it might play. Is this your experience? Am I missing something?

As for the ipad and android/iphone formatting I have seen that JW6 does resize for those formats but I have also noticed that it is not always consistent. Sometimes the file will start too large and then resize after a while. It usually ends up about the right size eventually.

Hi Ross – What I have found works for a video that all can see is to use the jwplayer 6 embed codes that are on their site. Use those with a local video and it can be viewed by anyone anytime. The embed codes are a bit clunky but they work just fine and the preview image works.

I am far from experienced with this sort of thing but am not afraid to offer feedback…no matter how dumb it may make me look. ;>) Sometimes just an exchange can help to jostle things up and see a new perspective.

Thanks for the info on the download key. I got it mixed up with the jwplayer.key newb at work. The download key had no effect on my situation.

Glad you got it working! Sounds like there is a glitch in the player_image shortcode if we are both having difficulties with it. At this point I don’t want to give up Philly’s shortcodes until there is a way to do playlists. For me that is essential. But I sure would like an easy way to satisfy the phone and ipad crowd.

Hi Ross – We are in similar situations. In playing with the shortcodes for JWPlayer 6 I found that I would see a similar “disappearance” of everything if I was not logged in. Are you logged in when trying this?

Also, are you calling the videos from cloudfront or from a local host? When I try to use these shortcodes they work with cloudfront but I cannot seem to get a local file to play even when using the “s2Stream player=”jwplayer-v6” shortcode. Here’s an example of one that is working for me, everything works except the player_image shortcode.

[s2Stream player="jwplayer-v6-rtmp" player_path="/jwplayer/jwplayer.js" file_download="5things-d.mp4" player_width="320" player_height="180" player_image="http://my site.com/wp-content/uploads/men2.png" /]

I am beta testing the free version at this point and don’t need a download key. I wonder if that might make a difference? I wonder what would happen if you omitted the download key shortcode?

Hi Seth – I am no expert on this area but when reading your post I wondered if you are using JWPlayer 6? If so, that player has an automatic delivery to mobile devices. JWPlayer 5 had no such capacity and from what you have written it sounds like you had some other way to translate the files to be seen via mobile. What I am wondering is if you have switched to JWPlayer 6 could it be that the player is trying to convert for mobile and your previous method is also trying to do the same thus creating a problem?

Thanks for posting this Ross. I am also interested in the shortcodes for JWPlayer 6. I have experimented a bit and they seem to work fine. They do indeed send the mp4 file to my ipad and to my android phone and format them well. The phone seemed to need to download most of the file before it would play smoothly. For a while it would play, then stop, play, then stop. Usually with videos it simply lags and then once it downloads enough it goes back to playing but in this instance it would actually pause and you would need to continue to hit the play button repeatedly. I let it sit for a while and came back and it played smoothly. I assumed it was a download issue.

The size of the videos seems to be about 480 wide on the wordpress post and does not seem to be changed via the short codes. I wonder if there is a default set somewhere? I would rather it be 640x. I also noticed that the JWPlayer has an option for choosing resolution. I didn’t see that on the one video I tested.

On a side note, I really hope the best for Philly whatever his situation might be. He has been a real help with this and put in a huge amount of work to make things easy for us. Get better Philly.

HI Peter – Will you be using JWPlayer 6? If so, this would change the code you would put onto each post. If you are using JWPlayer 5 many of us have been using a plugin “S2 Member Video Shortcode” by Philly.

http://phillymax.com/web/s2member-video-shortcode/

It has been a great plugin for me in simplifying getting videos up and running and making configuration simple. It looks as though Philly has been in the hospital and is unable to update it for JWPlayer 6. He has been a huge help to many of us and I sure hope he gets better soon.

The JWPlayer 6 shortcodes are very easy to configure but the seem to lack some of the configuration details that Philly’s plugin offered. I think I heard that they will be updated soon. You can find them in s2member-download options- then scroll down to JWPlayer 6.

The benefit of the JWPlayer 6 is that it will deliver your cloudfront content mp4 video file to ipads, iphone, android etc. It have experimented with it and it works very well.

Ok. Happy ending.

I found that somehow I had placed “all” into the Category Access Restriction. This automatically placed all posts into level one restriction. I unchecked the box and we are good to go. Sorry for taking up bandwidth. Maybe someone else will encounter the same blunder and find this post. ;>)

Please forgive me for replying to my own post but I now see in the wordpress dashboard that S2 is considering the paypal pro form post a level one restricted post. This is odd since when I created the page I left the S2 restrictions blank. When I do this to create pages it leaves them unrestricted but the default for the posts seems to be level one access. There must be a switch someplace that I didn’t check? How does one create an unprotected post? Thanks for any help with this. I have looked in the help sections and can’t find anything. ugh. It’s gotta be simple.

Thanks cassel. Interesting idea that it needs to be changed via the paypal interface. This would be a problem since I set up this fake account with a credit card rather than paypal. This leaves me scratching my head. There must be a way to cancel ones account from within S2? Maybe I am not thinking in the right direction here?

Thank you Cristián. When I click on the page I want to be public I get this:

I am sure the answer is in that url…but I can’t seem to figure it out. It’s hell being a newb! Thanks for any help.

Thank you Cristián! That is just what I needed. Your pic helped me realize that I have been entering the code in the wrong place. I had put it into the “Custom Capabilities” box when it needed to go into the “Custom Fields” box. It turns out that my version of WP did not have the custom fields active and so I didn’t see it on the edit page. I found that I needed to check the checkbox to get it to appear and once that was done your picture showed me exactly what I needed to do. It might help non-coding newbs like myself to have that picture available in the help files. Maybe it is and I missed it?

The page is coming up as https at this point so that is success. However, when I log out and try to go to that page I am automatically redirected to the membership page. What do I need to do to make that page pubic and not be redirected?

Many thanks. Tom

Sorry to ask a question and then not need a response….but since I posted this question I have solved my dilemma. I realized that Philly’s excellent shortcode for making a S3/Cloudfront video playlist could easily be configured to run a single video and omit the playlist. Since it makes it simple to configure a preview image the problem is solved. It works great and I can avoid that code altogether.

For anyone interested you can find Philly’s playlist shortcode here:

http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/trouble-streaming-a-jwplayer-playlist/

It has helped me over and over. Thanks again Philly!

I realized the answer to my own question. In the drop down box to choose what page to redirect the posts to you can simply not choose a page and leave the drop down blank and the posts are no longer sent to any page.
