@johnathon I’ve been waiting for a solution like this for almost a year. Shocked the authors haven’t made this a priority in a membership plugin. I’ll be checking your plugin out soon, thanks for posting!

My issue is now solved with the removal of their security release on logins. We’ll need to keep a closer eye on these kind of things in the future… I only found out after a fairly outgoing individual told me about it. That’s no good.

Posted: Wednesday Jun 19th, 2013 at 10:02 am #52214

Wow, that’s great news. I never would have guessed it was a WPE release that would mess with S2M.

Thanks for your attention Cristian, I’ll report back if they can do the same for my site.

Posted: Wednesday Jun 19th, 2013 at 9:48 am #52212

Ok, I just got the latest update and hoped it could fix something. I did some extensive testing, and it’s all down to the pro login widget. At this point, it’s the ONLY login method not working for non-admins.

Built in login options in my themes DO allow for logins, as does wp-login.php.

Cristian, this tells me that it’s solely the Pro login widget. Even after disabling all plugins I get the same result. Any chance we can bring in your devs on the topic, just to explore if it IS an S2M issue?

Posted: Wednesday Jun 19th, 2013 at 9:35 am #52211

So, is it WPEngine customers ONLY having the problems? Seems like everything hit the fan on the 6.17 update of S2M, though it’s only affecting us. Cristian, is this the case?

I’m still following up with WPE to try the caching issue… I wonder if reverting back to a previous version of S2M would do the trick?

Posted: Tuesday Jun 18th, 2013 at 10:07 am #52103

I’m working hard to try to nail this down.

It seems the pro login widget is a problem, it only works for admins, nobody else… however, the wp-login DOES work for everyone (as far as I’ve seen).

This only began yesterday morning, there was an S2Member new release, could there be anything that changed with the login widget?

The list of common troubleshooting doesn’t seem to make a difference, though I haven’t done super extensive testing, hoping to keep this thread a focus.

Posted: Monday Jun 17th, 2013 at 8:33 pm #52052

Heather, we should stay in contact about this. What did WPE say to you?

I noticed a working link being yoursite.com/wp-login.php. For some reason it actually started working. All login widgets and popups stopped working. I’ve changed my links to go to the main login window until we get this figured out.

I think it may be on the WPE side, but they didn’t know what was going on. I would say the lack of response from S2M means they’re not sure about it either.

Can I bump this? We’re actively trying to get it figured out. If anyone has any advice they can offer, it’d be great.

Hello S2M!

It seems that there is quite an interest (or… demand) in having automatic EOT notifications. Would one of the support reps please bring this up within the devs and let us know if this is in the works?

I think it’s a VERY necessary feature to avoid suprising charges our customers have forgotten about.

Thanks!

Can I bump this topic?

I’m with these guys… need a simpler, sure fire way to send an EOT notification.

I motion to up this topic to priority ‘yesterday’.

Hi again Jason,

Yes, we wanted the action of a button click to open a download dialogue box. We serve two file types, .MP4 and .WMV through S3. Customers would click .WMV videos and it would allow them to download. .MP4 files would start playing (inline), and was confusing to customers. Sometimes, their browser would crash playing the large videos inline.

So, by removing that from the inline extension list, it acts exactly like it should for us.

Thanks for your interest. I was hoping posting this may help others.

Best,
Jordan

Hi Jason,

No bug report… Just user oversight. The default list of inline files included MP4, which is one of our main downloads. I never thought to look at that list, but if I had, I would have saved a lot of time and research.

Just wanted to save other users some time if they’ve had a similar problem.

Thanks!
Jordan

To update this, you can test downloads using these credentials:

USER: pmichel
PASS: smile1

Try on this page: http://sermongear.com/portfolio/shine-announcement-template/

The same thing happens on all pages. Only the .WMV video files cues S2M for the download, all other download buttons bring up the sign up page, as if they’re not signed in or have permission. (.zip, MP4, MP3 all are denied)

I would REALLY appreciate help with this, before the weekend.

Thanks,
Jordan

I don’t think there IS a solution to this problem… I recently switched to wpengine for hosting, which helped my speeds a lot. S2member has a lot of features, which inevitably means it’s bloated. If you are looking for a light weight but very powerful delivery platform, I recommend Easy Digital Downloads. They are working on a membership method right now as well, but I use it, and they’ve got some great support.

I’m keeping S2m until another option comes along, but these js files are still the slowest loading files on my site. Hopefully they’ll find some other way to deliver them, instead of loading on every page.

Thanks for the reply.

I guess I had no idea there was a whole new s2member being built. But wouldnt that just mean that we will be upgraded to the new version when it comes out? When will that new version arrive?

Yes, essentially I would love to know who downloads things and when. For icing on the cake it would be great to know if there were people trying to download who didnt have permission yet.

You mention of a new version has my ears perked up… whats the story on that one?

Thanks,
Jordan

If you set it up this way, it will work as a full price trial. They won’t know the difference. It acts just like a real full price account without a coupon code.

Posted: Tuesday Jul 17th, 2012 at 2:44 pm #19550

I wonder the same question, and I’ve tried finding a way to fix that… As far as I know, it’s all preprogrammed.

The good news part is that they know EXACTLY what they’re getting, and the terms are very clearly explained. The average person would understand what’s happening, that’s a good thing.

Can I ask to see your site?

Posted: Tuesday Jul 17th, 2012 at 2:37 pm #19548

Mike,

Those fields need to be different. They cannot be the same. So the way I got around it, was to change the trial time period to “12 months” instead of 1 year. Or you can make it 365 days.

Make your trial and regular amounts the same, but it fools the system by calling them different values.

Hope that makes sense.

Hi Raam,

Thanks a ton for your response.

In the case that I discount (for our purposes) $5 off a yearly recurring subscription. If they use a coupon code, won’t they get that same discount when it renews? Or are coupon codes just a one time thing?

My model is entirely based on a yearly charges, so I would love if an initial discount is just a one time gig.

Thanks brother.

Hi Bruce,

Thank you for the advice. I implemented the changes, and it works like a charm!

My last related question: Do I HAVE to have a Paypal pro account to have members pay on my site? I was reading into the small print, and apparently you should be able to have an express account and remove the other payment options besides “paypal” in the shortcode, and still allow users to pay on the site.

At least initially, I’m trying to avoid the $30 a month fee for the Pro account by using express. Is it possible to have them remain on my site while using express?

Thanks again!

Bruce and Dave,

Thanks for the attention on this thread.
Re: Dave, The reason I upgraded to pro was so a user could pay directly on my site without clicking a button and being directed to Paypal, I’d like for them to stay on my site (pretty much the biggest ‘pro’ of the S2Member upgrade).

Re: Bruce, I’m already using the Paypal modification forms… that’s the problem. The modification form is actually showing the fields for a user to start a new profile, followed by the billing choices… as seen here:
http://cheapochurch.com/new-registration/

I have the “New registration” form, and further down the page is the option to upgrade later. As of now, a user is forced to start another account before getting to the billing section of the upgrade. Take a look at the link, you’ll see what I mean. When a user wants to upgrade, I don’t want them creating a new profile, they should just go straight to billing.

Hope that makes sense, I appreciate your help.

Hi Eduan,

I’m having a similar issue at this thread: http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/proforms-modification-showing-register-fields/

It hasn’t seen any love, can you take a look?

Hmmm, you should be able to define exactly where you go after every action within the parameters of the login widget. It gives you options to put URLs in for where a person goes when they log in, log out, etc.

If this isn’t it, try working with the General Options tab, with where users are redirected after login (though I’m pretty sure the widget overrides typical parameters, so I’d check with that)

Hi there,

I had the same problem, but it’s isn’t really a big deal to me, so I didn’t worry about it. What you can try is adding a
tag on the first line of where you list all the radio buttons on your form. It might force the first radio to move to the second, and there will simply be a small space above the list.

I haven’t tried it, but in theory that should take care of it for you.

This is very much possible, and INCREDIBLY easy in S2member Pro.

There is an entire drop down menu that lets you specify which page you want a user to see the first, second, or twentieth time they log in.

It’s crazy easy to do, so I’d recommend going Pro, and this feature is added automatically, no code needed.

(But Dave’s answer is WAY smarter than mine… hehe)
