Hi Stephen, Apologies for the confusion over the incorrect version number. I will let the lead developer know about that and hopefully we’ll get it fixed in the next update. Regarding Custom Capabilities: These are *not* WordPress capabilities. You don’t create them with the Role Editor plugin. A custom capability is a feature of s2Member that allows you to fine tune your restrictions. Please see the following video:

Hi J P, s2Member makes this very easy. You’ll simply generate a Billing Modification button or form (see Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Buttons -› Subscr. Modification Buttons and Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms -› Billing Modification Forms) that upgrades the user from free level to the paid level. The member will need to be logged in to use the button or form. When the member fills out the form and completes their payment, s2Member will automatically upgrade their existing account to the new level. (This assumes that you have properly configured IPN and PDT integration for your payment gateway, e.g., Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› PayPal® IPN Integration and Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› PayPal® PDT Integration). |

Hi Marcos, We don’t currently have a release date, but we’ll hopefully be doing beta testing within the next few weeks. We’ll make an official announcement as soon as possible. |

Hi Richard, We do not currently have a video that, but the integration is quite simple: s2Member controls access to various areas of BuddyPress using URI Restrictions (please see Dashboard -› s2Member® -› Restriction Options -› URI Access Restrictions). The only other integration s2Member does with BuddyPress is the integration of Custom Registration/Profile fields with BuddyPress (please see the bottom of Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Registration/Profile Fields: Integrate Custom Registration/Profile Fields with BuddyPress?). And that’s it, really. Since both s2Member and BuddyPress use the WordPress user base and authentication system, the integration is already there. Let us know if you have any other questions. |

Hi Richard, Yes, this can be done using the s2Member Advanced PHP Conditionals (see Dashboard -› s2Member® -› API / Scripting -› Advanced PHP Conditionals). You’ll need to edit your WordPress theme file where the menu is generated (probably the header.php file) and insert the code in there. For example:

Hi Marlin, You’ll need to write some code that utilizes the s2Member hooks to detect when the trial has ended and/or when the subscription payment has been successful, and then changes the users level from Level 1 to Level 3. This type of customization is beyond the scope of our support, but here are a few links that should point you, or your developer, in the right direction: http://www.primothemes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=2599&p=7409&#p7409 |

Hi James, If it’s asking the user to create a new account, then I would suspect that s2Member is not detecting the user as logged in. You could test this by visiting a blog post with HTTPS and posting a comment: does WordPress detect the user as logged in when posting a comment? Also please download this Server Check Tool, upload the PHP file to your WordPress directory, and then load the URL to the file in your browser. It will run a bunch of tests to determine if there’s anything amiss on the server-side. |

Hi Bryan, The s2Member levels are based on the WordPress Subscriber role capabilities. s2Member was not designed to give users access to the WordPress admin or to have any role capabilities other than the Subscriber role (which only allows viewing of content). Other customers have gotten around this using something like the Role Editor plugin, which allows you to manually edit the capabilities of specific roles. You could edit the s2Member Level roles and manually give them the permissions you need. Keep in mind, however, that his isn’t supported by s2Member. |

Hello, s2Member does not currently maintain a billing history. The billing history must be retrieved from the payment gateway (e.g., PayPal) by logging in and accessing the history there. s2Member does allow the cancellation of a subscription while retaining the s2Member account. There’s an option to handle what happens when an EOT (cancellation, failure of payment, etc.) occurs: Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Automatic EOT Behavior. If you want the users account to be demoted to Free Subscriber instead of deleted upon EOT, you can set that behavior there. |

Hi Ali, Yes, s2Member can be used to charge for a monthly recurring subscription. We also provide full access to the source code and many hooks/filters to make integrations and customizations easier. Please see the video tutorials to get a better idea how the plugin works and I recommend installing the free version first to see if it’s what you need. |

Hi Joe, Yes, s2Member can handle this scenario. You would simply use the s2Member conditionals (see Dashboard -› s2Member® -› API / Scripting -› Simple/Shortcode Conditionals) to control who sees what. You’d display a Pro-Form configured with price X to users who are not logged in and a Pro-Form configured with price Y for users who are logged in. Keep in mind that when presenting logged-in users with a signup form, you must use the Billing Modification form (see Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Buttons -› Subscr. Modification Buttons and Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms -› Billing Modification Forms). An existing member cannot use the same signup forms as those for non-existent users. |

Hi Joshua, As long as the payment gateway you’re using supports recurring subscription payments from a Chinese audience, you shouldn’t have any problem. For a list of payment gateways that s2Member supports, please see Pre Sale FAQs » What payment gateways does s2Member® support? |

Hi Boudewijn, s2Member only works with its own roles (s2Member Level 0 – 1) which are based on the WordPress Subscriber role capabilities; it doesn’t touch or affect any of the other roles. For information about the WordPress roles, please see Roles and Capabilities on the WordPress Codex. If you’re having trouble with a non-s2Member role, I recommend posting your question on the WordPress.org Support Forums. |

Hi Boudewijn, I just checked the latest version of s2Member (v120622) and the password strength meter is still working. The problem with yours could be caused by a conflicting plugin or even some JavaScript added by your theme. |

Hi Brian, The PayPal representative you spoke with was wrong. Please call them back and hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to point you in the right direction. I assure you that s2Member does not store or pass along that information. This link on the PayPal Community forum may be helpful. If not, I recommend contacting PayPal again. |

Hi Christopher, When you say the user “has no role assigned”, how are you checking this? If a user signs up through an s2Member-generated button or Pro-Form, then they will be assigned the level (i.e., role) that was selected during the generation of the button/form (s2Member Level 0 – 4). When you edit one of your paying users, what s2Member Level does it say they’re assigned? |

Hi Tim, Please see my replies below:
If users are signing up using a Pro-Form that you generated from Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Pro Forms, then you should receive the same registration notification email that you get for free signups (that new user registration email comes from WordPress itself — it’s not something that s2Member sends). If users are signing up using a PayPal Button (Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Buttons -› Membership Level # Buttons), then the user is sent an email after purchase which contains a link where they can actually create their account and register. You won’t receive the new user registration email until they click that link in their email and register on your site. In either case, if you think you should be receiving an email but you’re not, I recommend reading Knowledge Base » Troubleshooting Email Delivery Problems and installing the recommended plugins, including the WP Email Log plugin which will allow you to see what emails WordPress is sending.
Please see these two links for more information on modifying s2Member emails: http://www.primothemes.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=10368&p=33365#p33365 |

Boudewijn, Are you using the success= attribute in your shortcode? Could you post the entire PayPal button shortcode that you generated in s2Member here for us to look at? Also, what is Dashboard -› s2Member® -› General Options -› Open Registration currently set to? |

Lee, What does the Automatic EOT Time field say on the users profile? (Edit their account and look for that field.) If s2Member has processed an EOT for that user, the date of their termination should show up in the Automatic EOT Time field on their account. |

Hi Terri, The User Role Editor plugin is designed to modify the default functionality of WordPress roles. By using that plugin and making such advanced changes, there will always be the risk that other plugins (which may work with the WordPress roles and therefore be affected by your changes there) will behave unexpectedly. Privileges are determined by roles, so if you’re making changes to the roles using the Role Editor plugin, it’s hard to know if the problem is on the s2Member side or the Role Editor plugin side. There are other reasons users could be losing privileges: If s2Member receives an IPN message from PayPal indicating their account should be demoted (because of failed payment, user-canceled subscription, etc.), then s2Member will handle their account as per your configuration in Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Automatic EOT Behavior. To determine if this is what’s happening, I suggest enabling logging (Dashboard -› s2Member® -› PayPal® Options -› Account Details -› Logging) and then, after you’ve noticed someone lose their privileges, look at the logs in plugins/s2member-logs/ to see if you can determine why they lost their privileges. We don’t have a set of developers that we recommend for hire, but we do recommend posting a job on jobs.wordpress.net. |
