Well, I guess it was not an error after all. While following your advice above, I noticed that there is a “new user sign up” form under “general options” and also a “sign up confirmation email” under Paypal options. I needed to change the later.

Hi Jose – Yes, take a look at the documentation that I reference above. Your videos will be protected automatically by S2Member and you do not need Amazon S3. You simply need to put them in the folder that S2member automatically protects.
cheers!

Jose –
There is no affiliate program for Amazon S3. I seriously doubt S2Member is getting a kickback.
Not all of the integrations nor functionality is included in the video tutorials, much of it is within your S2Member WordPress Admin Screen.
The information that you will want to read is under:
S2Member – Download Options – JW Player® v6 & RTMP Protocol Examples
However, I found a MUCH simpler way of integrating video and audio by installing a free wordpress plugin called “MediaElement.js – HTML5 Audio and Video” and using it to link directly to my content. The player works flawlessly with video and audio and I was able to access my stuff on a various devices including an iPad, Android Phone, and an iPhone. That being said, I did not protect my content on the site. That is, I did not put the content in s2member-files, rather in an unprotected folder. I assume the plugin will still work in the protected folder, but will let someone with more programming knowledge verify.

Thanks Christian. I have also sent an email to Aweber support.
Does S2Member have some type of paid support? Or can you recommend a place to find a provider? I have 7 memberships sites now and can no longer keep up with the demands. I have recently hired a wordpress programmer but not quite sure how he will do with S2Member.
Thanks!

Thanks Eduan. I think you are correct. I sent the link to a friend and she was able to use. Not really a problem, quite frankly. I was mainly just curious.
Thanks again!

Would like to say that I know have a couple of development S2member installations on a Mediatemple GS (grid service) plan and they are working fine. I have not actively marketing the sites, but I have several paid members and everything worked flawlessly.
I hope this keeps up. I would like to keep everything on MediaTemple.
cheers!!

Thanks Jason. I don’t think this is an S2Member issue. I should have noted that in my last posting. S2member handled everything fine. In addition to JWPlayer I have links on my site to download the files and S2member handled them fine and also protected the content (I believe). The only issue was JWPlayer showing an error message.
As always, thanks for your response!

Thanks Cristián. I found out that after I lowered the programmers level the pages question had no “author.” How that affect JWplayer, I don´t know. Just wanted to point it out. – Ryan

Ok. This is fixed!! Thank Goodness.
I discovered that the pages that worked were all pages that I created under my admin account. That pages that did NOT work were created by a local programmer who helped me with the site. After checking and double checking that the code was exactly the same I realized that I had lowered the programmers admin login to S2Member Level1.
Why does that matter? I don’t know, but when I make myself the page author everything works fine again.
Thanks! – Ryan

Disabled caching plugin and attempting to increase WP memory, but no matter what I do, it tells me I only have 34:
http://ericksoniancongress.com/members/s2member-server-check-120703.php
I have change the php.ini, added a line to the htaccess, contacted my host etc. I still get this error:
“Although NOT required, s2Member® recommends that you raise your WordPress® memory limit (please set: WP_MEMORY_LIMIT in /wp-config.php), to at least 64M (i.e. 64 megabytes). Please see: this how-to article. Or consult with your web hosting company about this message. Your current memory limit allows only: 32M”
Any suggestions?
Thanks Ryan

Thanks Raam.
As a test, I copied and pasted the working code from one page to a page where the code did not work. And that did not help. So perhaps the problem is not in the code.
I ran the server side test (very cool by the way) and I received only one error:
NOTICE] WordPress® Memory LimitAUTO-FIX!dismiss?
Although NOT required, s2Member® recommends that you raise your WordPress® memory limit (please set: WP_MEMORY_LIMIT in /wp-config.php), to at least 64M (i.e. 64 megabytes).
However that fail seems to contradict this PASS so I am not sure what to do:
PASS] WordPress® MAX Memory Limit
Your WordPress® MAX memory limit (WP_MAX_MEMORY_LIMIT in /wp-config.php, or by default), is set to: 256M
I increased the memory, but not sure it it helped. Checking with Bluehost to see what else needs to be done to increase memory.
Thanks – Ryan

Janet –
Thanks for asking. This is my site:
http://ericksoniancongress.com/
People pay a one time fee (Now $395, but it started out at $195) for access to the presentations. The business model works very well because some of my presenters are very well known and they have large email lists. They promote the conference, get a large % of the registration fee and there is still enough left for me and my business partner. Also, I use Aweber and S2member to collect emails and thus am building a large list of my own.
This is the 4th or 5th conference that I have done with S2member. One only made about a $100) total and some of the others did better. But little by little I am figuring it out.
cheers! And good luck.

Janet – Good to see that you got it going. Sorry that I missed your previous message.
I did not think of the mp4 issue. Most of my files are mp3 audio only and work fine. Once Amazon s3 is up and running it seems to run flawlessly. I am serving 300 members 42 mp3 and 3 videos and so far, everything has been great.
(After the headache of getting it set-up, of course)

Hi Janet – Not a problem, though sorry you are not up and running just yet. I believe S2member created your crossdomain automatically as you mentioned. I did find an old post by Jason (the developer) which talks about what to put in your crossdomain file.
I believe you can simply copy and past what he wrote (see the post) into a text file. Save the text file as crossdomain.xml and then upload it:
http://www.s2member.com/forums/topic/file-access-and-crossdomain-errors/#post-6706

Ok. I thought something like that might be happening. You need to tell S2members how often your various members can download your files (if they can download them at all? Or are you just doing streaming?)
Go to that section and put in some numbers. For example 10 times every 30 days or something (and remember to click “SAVE.” and then test your link on this page again:
http://www.depressionmeditation.net/test2
you should be able to download.
What you wrote below is not a link, it is two links:
Here’s the s2 Media File URL for “mm1wakeey.mp3″: http://www.depressionmeditation.net/wp-content/uploads/https://s3.amazonaws.com/thedepressionmeditationsystem/mm1wakeey.mp3
Namely:
http://www.depressionmeditation.net/wp-content/uploads/
and:
https://s3.amazonaws.com/thedepressionmeditationsystem/mm1wakeey.mp3
|
|
Hi Janet – Keep the crossdomain file in there I think S2Member needs it.
The linking style that I mentioned is something like this:
<a href="[s2File download="FILENAME.mp3" /]" target="_blank">Download Presentation.</a>
Although for you, the file extension might not be .mp3. If you can do the above and it works (i.e downloads or opens in another browser window) it will be an indication that your S2member is configured correctly. If not, then the problem might not be with JWPlayer but with your S2member configuration.
Try it and see what happens?

By the way – Can you do a normal S2member link such as a download? That is can you link and download protected files without JwPlayer? That would be a good test that yourS2member is set-up correctly.

Sorry for not replying sooner. The forum is not sending me notifications of replies.
I think you need to skip using the plugin. It is not compatible with S2Member.
The link that you have above is not a valid link. It is actually two links:
http://www.depressionmeditation.net/wp-content/uploads/
https:/s3.amazonaws.com/thedepressionmeditationsystem/mm1wakeey.mp3
The second is the link that you want. When clicking that, I get the error message:
This XML file does not appear to have any style information associated with it. The document tree is shown below.
AccessDenied
Access Denied
045F07366FABE7B0
Eulq2xN99HV9pdYLvjMaQQjbXSaEmBWPG8xyFjeVYX5B1ei8P42i+JZekkSuOmgW
Which is an error message that I used to get as well. It seems to me that to fix that, I had to add a file to my Amazon S3 bucket called crossdomain.xml.
But for the life of me, I cannot remember how I did that. I think instructions are in one of Joshe’s videos. I will post the link in just a moment.
You are almost there!

Thanks Eduan. You had a working S2member site on Mediatemple?

Mohammed – Would you be willing to post what you did? I’m very new to advanced conditionals.
I’m looking to do something similar. I want my blog to be completely open for reading but want people to pay for the privilege of posting.
Thanks – Ryan

hmm. Sometimes I wonder if S2member is going to get so complicated that the average person will no longer be able to learn how to use it effectively. Is there a price for adding so many new features?
|
|
Thanks Rick. That is an application for S2Member that I had not considered. I hope more people chime in, it would be good to see how people are using the software.

I don’t quite understand this. S2member restricts the number of connections? I thought only a hosting company wold do that in order to conserve bandwidth and server resources???
I have a site on Bluehost with 280 members and another 250 or so on the way. I am paranoid that when the site officially launches (it is a conference) having too many connections and downloads with throttle my site.
